This band Wollongong has probably the second longest album title in the world. We all know that Fiona Apple has the record on that one, but we’re not here to talk about her now are we? So “Starknakedcreepingmacroeconomicfascism” starts out with grindy guitars and a vocalist who sounds a little tipsy. I like when singers sound a little tipsy. He sounds like he’s singing in a dingy bar after partying a little too hard earlier in the evening. In fact that’s the feel I get from the whole band. The bass is dingy, the guitars are dingy, the drums are dingy, the whole album is dingy. I really feel like I should be in a tavern drinking cheap beer smoking cheap cigarettes listening to these guys. It’s just that kind of dark drunk dingy feeling. One thing that is annoying is that it seems like the guitar is maxed out on every track so there’s this constant static scratch going on in the background. I’m sure it was just produced that way, but it’s just tiring after a few songs. This band is reminiscent of lesser known bands, like you expect them to be wearing flannels and boots and trucker hats, except for they’d be doing it in an unpretentious manner like that’s what they wear every day and they work at the lumber yard down the road there. Not in the “I’m going to jack grunge style and make it a fad” type of way. I guess I’m not really telling you how the music sounds, but more how it feels. If you get what I mean, then you’ll know how it sounds. I would recommend this album to people who like bar bands.
