Nothing drives me more bonkers then trying to review music done by friends. It doesn’t matter if these are cyber friends that I have never met before or people from the local scene I have had a chance to drink a beer or two with. If the cd is horrid I just pass it off to another writer and let them rip it apart. This keeps people from leaving this site and never coming back. When it’s good however I have no problem doing the review. Good stuff is always easy. So here we have something that although not my normal cup of tea (peppermint and only when I’m sick), it is very well done. For the most part this is very ethereal industrial with some strong gothic influence. There is not a clear beat to any of it, so it will go over most peoples heads I think. Don’t expect anything like “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck” by Prong or anything.

I like the mix of both the male and female vocals, but the male vocals go overboard with effects. I would love to hear his voice without them in a few places here and there. Just mix it up is all I am saying. The fourth and final song on the cd would have been the perfect song to do this with. For such an independent release, the production is down right stunning. Everything is crisp and clear with a mix that let’s everything through. With this style it would be very easy to get away with a muddy production, so I am glad they went that extra mile to make it sound just right. The cover art is perfectly non specific and fits the music exactly. It gives off the same ethereal and dark poetic vibe that the music does.

For a four song demo this is done pretty well. With a few tweaks here and there the band could become a legend in the underground scene. To become worldwide famous they would have to change their style and I honestly would hate to see that happen. What they have here is unique and in today’s day and age that is a rare thing. Did this Rock My Monkey? I don’t know if “rocked” is the vibe this was even meant to give off. I did enjoy it though and I look forward to hearing how this project evolves over time.
