I have been reviewing a lot of live cds recently for some reason. All of them two disc sets come to think of it. The one from Foghat was so perfect I question how live it is. The one from Yes could have both live and studio enhancements on it. I am pretty convinced that this cd is 100% live though. It is raw and ugly like rock and roll should be. Some of the songs have been changed so much from the originals that I almost didn't recognize them from the originals. Normally this would bother me, but not this time. For some reason, the way the band revamped these songs makes them just sound fresh. It makes this live cd sound like it is actually live. Now there is something lost on a cd like this. This tour had all kinds of insane spectacles with circus freaks, people that breathe fire, midgets, and who knows what else. One can't hear these kinds of things. But if you were able to see the tour or have seen the DVD, it would make this two disc cd set even better. So this might make a better companion piece than something you would buy alone. Not saying the music does not stand alone by itself. It just leaves you with a feeling like you are missing something. I wish I would have been sent the DVD with this. I would have went to the tour, but I think they were asking more than a down payment on a house for decent seats. If I don't have at least a photo pass, no show is worth that much. I might however buy the DVD at some point. Much cheaper, better seats, and no stupid drunks or security to piss me off. Now it must be said that if you buy the cd at Wal Mart you have to buy the two discs separately, but if you shop at Wal Mart you are probably an inbred moron anyways so you deserve to get ripped off like that. I also notice that "Too Young To Fall In Love", "Smoking In The Boys Room", & "You're All I Need" are missing. I have not heard a reason why these three songs were left off, but other lesser known songs were included. I just thought it was an important thing to point out. Other than that this is a greatest hits from top to bottom. My only other complaint is the Vince needs to enunciate more. He tends to trail off on some parts and almost mumble on some others. Other than that the band is on fire and still tight as hell. So did this Rock My Monkey? Yes it did, but I have to admit it took a few listens. I also noticed that this is not a cd that can be played on a cheap boom box. It sounds absolutely atrocious on anything but a really good system. This is of course due to this being a real live recording and there is a good amount of background noise. Not like a cheap bootleg or anything, but not like a crystal clear studio recording (or some fake live albums some band's release). I have not had a chance to hear this on my headphones yet. So next I think I will stick this thing on my PDA and take it to work. This is a working class band and this is some great music to take to work. ![]()
