So I go the chance to interview Klaus Meine back in August and somehow I totally spaced doing the cd review? I swear I remember writing this once before, but I can't find it now. Oh well, here it goes again. I have read some lackluster reviews of this cd and the last one Unbreakable, but I could not disagree more. I have loved this cd for the past 6 months since it was first sent to me. Both it and Unbreakable have been played by both me and my wife more times then either of us can count. If one truly listens to the first two songs that start out this cd, they will find songs that are almost as heavy as anything else the band have released. "321" is a son that is going to get the crowds jumping just as much as "Rock You Like A Hurricane". I fond myself singing along to it before it was done playing the first time I put the cd on. Ok, there may be a few more ballads on here then they used to do. I do wish they had more songs that rocked, but I am sure their female fans like it this way. So make one side happy and piss off the other side. This is still a great cd. "The Cross" is a song I totally expected to hate since it has Billy Corgan on it. I honestly can't hear him. His vocals must be buried in the mix (just as they should have been on Smashing Pumpkins material), because I can't hear them at all except for a small part starting at two minutes and 40 seconds in. It lasts less then a minute and he doesn't have that annoying nasally whine he does on his own material. So this song is shockingly one of my favorites. To think, it was one of the reasons I didn't even want to give this cd a chance. I think my least favorite song is "Your Last Song", which is for some reason not the last song. It could be that the band wanted to end on a good note and buried this song in the middle. Instead this ends with "Humanity". A very interesting song that goes back and forth from being a ballad to a hard rocking tune throughout it's Five minutes and 26 second run time. A great way to end a great cd. So did this Rock My Monkey? Yes it does. Sure I will listen to the big four of thrash more often, but where as Overkill's new one might get played at the beginning of a work day to get my blood pumping, this will be perfect for winding down. Now let's hope the band proves they can still rock hard as ever on the next cd! ![]()
