My first thoughts on this cd as it was playing the fist time was that I liked it better. This has a raw and reckless vibe to it that is missing from their later era material. The band is more known for an overproduced spin on metal. This is one of the band's people think of when artists talk about music where Pro Tools is over used. Well, with Throttle Junkies the band didn't have the budget or the know how to overproduce things. So we get a rock and roll cd that is nice and ugly. Things are rough around the edges like they should be.

Now with the band's current label DRT not looking so good, the band's main song writer and founder Shaun Glass moving on to a new band, and Ryan doing decent with Drowning Pool now, I don't see a really bright future for this band. So it's nice that Crash makes this available. I think my favorite song is "Hello Again". I love the way they put that right after the very mellow (and also very well done) "Man I Am". These two songs are the highlight of the cd.

There are times where the band also shows that they were not quite ready for prime time though, too. Some of the hooks are not as solid on a few songs, but overall this is the band's best release as far as I am concerned. This re-release has three songs added. These sound like they were recorded at the same time. Not sure why they were not on the original version, but fans have them now. The first of these extra tracks is "Black Betty". This is a song that has been covered so many times by so many other artists over the years that there is a debate about who even wrote the original. This could be why it was left off of the original version. "Triple 6's" and "2 Cent Friend" are also on here. This makes it a 17 track cd. Many bands would separate this into two cds so they could milk their fans for more cash. So kudos to the band for not doing that.

So did this Rock My Monkey? Yeah, it was way better than I thought it would be. Not sure I will ever listen to it again though. It's good and if you are a fan of the band this is a must have. I'm just extremely jaded when it comes to these things and there is so much more out there for me to listen to. This cd might hold you over while you wait for the next Drowning Pool cd with this singer, or the next Soil release. Very good, but not the most amazing thing I have heard this year.
