There are moments in life where, as a death metal fan, you crave sheer insanity and technical blitzkriegs at every turn of every song, without exception. Braindrill's "Apocalyptic Feasting" brings you all that and more, throwing in the occasional ass-kicking hook to chop up the technical onslaught a bit. A warning, though: if you're not a huge fan of death metal in general and tech dm to be precise, this will probably bore you. I could see how someone not into frantic scales and non-stop speed would want to avoid this, but to me (and those sick freaks like me), this album is like a little slice of heaven and guts. I can hear various influences from Cannibal Corpse to Aborted on here, and fans of Origin and Beneath The Massacre will just eat this band up with a spoon.

Vocalist Steve Rathjen brings out the devil in us all with his grating vocal stylings that (again) remind me of a mix of Dusty, formerly of Severed Savior, and Sven from Aborted. Absolutely manic and grinding, with the more or less death metal staple of growls and screams, dm fans shall be pleased. The guitarwork on here is impressive, utilizing lots of sweeps and notes that are kind of all over the place at times. To be honest, I don't think it would hurt Braindrills music a bit if Dylan Ruskin would throw in a bit more hooks, but then again the frantic pace would be compromised. Drummer Marco Pitruzzella is an absolute phenom, the guy is so freakin talented on drums it boggles the mind. Pulling everything from blastbeats to earth shattering double-bass and tom fills, this guy just runs circles around most drummers. A couple of times I thought that maybe they were using a drum machine as the playing was so accurate. And now for the best part of this band in my opinion: bassist Jeff Hughell stands out like crazy. Anyone who's paid attention to my reviews before knows that I dig good bass playing, regardless of style. Now, if you can throw an ultimate bass player into the mix of death metal, holy shit. Both "Bury The Living" and "Sadistic Abductive" have EXCELLENT bass solos in them, that just make any bass player/fan drool.

From the start "Gorification", the blood and guts get flowing with the intensity of a nuclear holocaust during a zombie coup of the living. Lyrically the majority of the tracks are your basic "zombies and death and mutilation" angle, with the exception of "Forcefed Human Shit", which focuses on the media, and "Swine Slaughter", which is more or less a song pissing and moaning about the police. The lyrics for "Swine Slaughter" I could do without, but since it's death metal and you can't really understand them anyways, the song itself rocks. Outstanding tracks on here include "The Parasites", "Revelation", "The Depths Of Darkness", and album closer "Sadistic Abductive". This disc is recommended to ALL dm fans into over the top technicality and sheer face-grinding intensity. There are no warm cozy fluffy moments here, there's no "feel" if you will, just a BEAST of an album that flattens all who are not strong. I should also mention that the album artwork is great, nice crunchy zombie scenes done by Par Olofsson. Get this album, as the entire package is worthy of being in any death metal collection.
