Now although the cd starts out with some very lame narration, it kicks in with some very well done power metal shortly thereafter. I also like how the singer doesn't use clean vocals through the entire thing. He seems to know how to toss in some gruff vocals in to give the ends of a verse that extra kick. Now don't get me wrong, this is totally a Power Metal cd and you shouldn't expect too many "Corpsegringer" impressions or anything. Now I have read some reviews that claim this is not even a metal release. I have to know what those people are smoking, because this reminds me more of true traditional metal than the majority of what is called metal nowadays. There is not a single note on here that would be considered radio friendly in the least. The biggest complaint is that the band has phased out their folk elements. So when did it become mandatory to have folk elements to be metal? Sure folk can be used in metal, but to say a band is not metal because they have phased out a folk influence is just plain retarded. With all that being said, I would be curious to hear if the folk elements make things sound better or if the band phased that out to give everything a more cohesive feel. Listen to the beginning of "Infection" and hear how the singer goes from black metal, to power metal, with a nice death metal vocal in the background to give it that extra power. The way he mixes so many vocal styles without sounding unfocused is by far this band's greatest asset. On the song "Poison Tears", the mix of growl vocals, clean vocals, and a few other styles, along with the catchy chorus and riffs that make it my favorite song on the cd. Something about the rhythm, pace, and tempo on "The Death and the Suffering" makes it my second favorite song on the cd. The violin used on the intro of "Riddle Of Stars" adds yet another texture to this rather versatile band. If they band got rid of the annoying narration I think this would be a stronger disc. Ignore the garbage other might say and give a listen for yourself. Tell me this isn't one of the most original and heavy metal releases you have heard in awhile. Will I listen to this again? I can give a 100% chance of repeated listens. I put this cd away for a few weeks before I finished this review to make sure it aged well too and I have to say I think I like it even more. This thing truly does Rock My Monkey! ![]()
