The first thing I noticed was that the band's songs are extremely infectious. After that I started to notice the band reminds me a lot of the 90's band Live with their cd Throwing Copper and the early material from U2 back when they used to be an actual rock band. There is also influences of Velvet Revolver, 3 Doors Down, Nickleback, or Audioslave. Mostly I hear Throwing Copper and Unforgettable Fire though. For the most part this is standard alternative rock that is heavily influenced by bands that were praised as the new gods in the early 90s. This is like a way more pretentious version of Nirvana. If they got rid of the slightly whiny sound on the vocals, I think I could get into this more. Not saying I don't like it. In fact I have listened to this at work many times. This is one of those band's that sounds great on a really shitty sound system. For example, at work many times I don't feel like wearing headphones. If everybody has left the building and I feel like some tunes at the end of the day I will play something on the external speakers my "smart phone" has. This is one of the best band's for that situation. At the end of the day I don't feel like Slayer most of the time. I need something kind of wimpy that sounds good on really shitty speakers and this band is perfect for that. It is because they don't stick out much that they work so well when I am in this mood. My point being that sometimes slightly bland is just what a person wants. This is why radio has worked for so long. This band is perfect for the radio.

With as much as I do like this cd, I do have a couple complaints. The band is not without flaws that make it less enjoyable. The song "Melt Away" reminds me of that extremely annoying singer they picked for the so called supergroup Rockstar: Supernova. With the song "Dark", when the chorus kicks in, the only thing I can think is that I wish this guy would stop repeating himself so much.

Despite the very minor amount of negatives, this band has excellent song writing, production, and solid performers. Is this my new favorite cd? Far from it. Will I listen to it again? I am sure of it. I know my wife has listened to it in her car numerous times and will probably spin it many times after as well. So not at all groundbreaking, but it still serves a purpose when the proper mood strikes. Does this Rock My Monkey? No, this is more for when the monkey needs to start winding down from yet another shitty day at work. I have a feeling that it would sound even better with a microbrew. Yeah, this is one of those microbrew bands. So if you despise that style of rock then stay clear. Otherwise check out the band's MySpace page and see what you think.
