They say first impressions are very important. Well, my first impression was when I looked at some of these song titles. I don't smoke pot, but a good amount of them have some very entertaining hints at this band's second favorite pastime. When the cd kicks in I am happy to hear that this is not going to be another bland 'bear on the mic' metalcore band with flat monotone growls. In fact almost everyone of these songs are pretty damn good for the most part. Ok, this is where I have to type some negatives. Many times the songs drag on too long and are very repetitive. If the band used a good outside producer I think these songs could have been tweaked to near perfection. Like many other band's there is tons of potential and they are very close to being a band to be reckoned with. The sound is a very tongue in cheek mix of some of my favorite 90's era bands. Galactic Cowboys, Kings X, Sublime, and a touch of System Of A Down can all be heard. Some other reviews have mentioned 311, but I think that band both sucks and blows so I'm not going to compare Itis to them. I have heard many say that the production here is weak, but it sounds pretty good to me. I am sick of all this over produced crap that sounds like it has been fed through Pro-Tools so much that all the punch has been taken out. Rock and Roll ain't supposed to be pretty for fucks sake. This band is a little raw, but that is part of their charm. If this thing had a slick sound I would probably be ripping this cd a new one. Now although I have to say I would love to see this band live, I don't think I will listen to this cd after this review is posted. It's good, but it's not great. As I said before, the songs do drag at times and the pot jokes would get old after a few listens. Now I have a feeling that a great majority of our readers do smoke pot and I think if you smoke pot you will love this cd. If the band needs a quote, here it is: "This is music for pot smokers, by pot smokers and is a cd every pot smoking hard rock fan should buy before their next puff!" Did it at least Rock My Monkey? Yes it did. I especially liked "In God We Trust". I think I am going to try and convert this band to The Church Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster if they play Olympia. So this cd does have some highlights. How can you hate a band that samples George Carlin? I could have done without the song "Thoughts" and I literally almost fell asleep waiting for it to be over. I could only handle couple of seconds of "Azz Go Boom" to be honest. I feel if I would have listened to the entire song I would have re-written this entire review to be very negative. This brings up my last point. The band is very dated with this song and more. The rapcore trend (heard on 'Azz go boom') died about ten years ago and I don't see it coming back anytime soon. So this band has more good about it than bad. The band would be great to see live and every pot smoker should buy this. To go beyond that however I think the band will need a good producer. I highly recommend Jack Endino! He would be perfect for this band to do their next cd. ![]()
