Well, here we have a DVD from the band Body Count. This is a recording of their live performance at the Troubadour in L.A. The main DVD doesn’t have any options. You just click on it and it plays the live show from the beginning.

It starts out with a few minutes of the band just playing a riff. Then Ice T comes out in a Halloween mask. His first few lyrics introduce the band members, then he proceeds to say “Body Count, Body mutha-fuckin Count” way too many times in a row. The lead guitar player does end up busting out a solo about 6 minutes into the DVD, but most of the time he just plays repetitive riffs. The second guitarist just pretty much plays along with the riffs. Nothing in the guitar playing is impressing me that much.

Ice T definitely thinks he is a bad-ass. He does air guitar a lot. It actually bugs me to death when any lead singer does that. It’s like, cant you just concentrate on entertaining the audience with your voice? It seems the audience here is only entertained when Ice T swears a lot. As far as the performance goes, I really don’t see anything special going on this night. Ice T talks a lot. He tells a story about the original Body Count members that died. His banter with the audience is just fine. But the energy of the lyrics during the actual songs are not up to par. He’s not singing or rapping. It’s more like talking, and there isn’t much emotion. It’s too flat for me.

That’s how I feel about the performance of the whole band. The only person who seems to have energy the whole time and even be totally on it is the drummer. Everybody else has what seems to be the “I’m too cool to get into it” attitude.

If you are a fan of this band, you might like this DVD. Especially the second disc, which holds some special features. But if you’re looking for something to get in to or something to pump you up, I just don’t feel this would be the music DVD to do so.
