OK, so maybe there are some serious deficiencies in my metal knowledge. But the name Eric Adams just didn’t ring any bells when I looked at this DVD. The liner notes didn’t give me any clues and the couple of pictures were generic enough to not provide any idea. The second name, Chester Moore, was even more unknown to me. But the title, “Wild Life & Wild Times” suggested that there might be some connection to the metal community even though it is obvious that this is a hunting and fishing primer.

Plugging the DVD in, with the first strains of ‘Warriors of the World’ I made the connection. Ah….Manowar….I get it now. I kinda like their cheesy version of metal, but not enough to really get to know anything about them. This DVD being released primarily to the German audience makes even more sense as that is really Manowar’s primary market. In setting up to play, it gives you two choices; either you can have subtitles in English or in German. Nope….no choice at all about no subtitles.

Now, seeing as this is obviously being marketed to Eric Adams fans, you would think that there would be some Eric Adams background. Not really. The first part gives you a history of who Chester Moore is and his connection to Eric, and why they are doing these hunts together. Oh, did I mention that this has nothing to do with music at all, that it is simply one hunt after another, or sometimes a fishing trip here and there? There are 15 separate animal hunts on this, with there sometimes being multiple hunts within the same animal type. Eric isn’t even in all of them, so this is really more of a DVD showing Chester on his hunts with Eric being along for most of them.

Living in western Michigan, hunting and fishing play a large roll in many peoples lives. Me, I grew up just outside of D.C., so I never got into it. But living and working here you gain an appreciation for the outdoor life just through your contacts with friends and co-workers. It seems that what this DVD is trying to do is introduce the concept of hunting and fishing to people, and I am assuming metal fans in particular, but it doesn’t do that good of a job at it. It really is more of a “look what I did on my vacation” type of thing rather than good instruction. Though there are some basic tips and concepts introduced, it doesn’t get in depth enough to really make any difference. There is too much of “what a beautiful animal” (of course, right after they killed it) and “you gotta love this”.

As far as options, there really isn’t all that much. Of course, you can jump from chapter to chapter, or in other words hunt to hunt. There is a bloopers section that is fairly small and not really all that funny. You can listen to all the background music that Eric Adams wrote for this. But I really wouldn’t recommend it. Pretty lame instrumental stuff, really. And that’s about it.

Maybe I am being too harsh. Maybe because I come from the land of Ted Nugent I expect more from an outdoors feature by a rocker. Maybe this thing is just too long and too shallow (83 minutes for 15 animals). I don’t know, but I do know that I got real bored about half way through. I will admit that they show some beautiful scenery and some of the wildlife is gorgeous. I sure wouldn’t recommend this for Mark "Barney" Greenway of Napalm Death or any of his Peta friends. Actually, I don’t really think that I would recommend this to anyone. If you like hunting and fishing, there are much better shows out there. If you want entertainment from a rocker while watching it, get any of Uncle Tedly’s stuff. This DVD just strikes me as exploitation of a band’s fan base with no more redeeming value than watching last summer’s vacation vids.

I give “Wild Life & Wild Times” a 4…….out of 10.
