This DVD from punk band H2O is a great DVD for a fan of the band. It seems like a bit of a definitive DVD because it has three great sections. The first is a home video section showing random clips from the bands home video cameras. The second section is the band’s 10 year anniversary concert recorded live at the Knitting Factory in New York. The third section, called extras, has the bands actual videos. The concert section is pretty good quality live recording. The band just tears it up from song to song. The crowd is super excited and energetic. You can hear each instrument really well. The sound quality on this recording is really good. As far as the performance goes, the band does a great job of getting the crowd pumped up while still concentrating on playing the songs well. There is a point where the bass player jumps into the crowd and does a little crowd surfing and playing at the same time. There is also a part where somebody in the crowd passes out, and the band stops playing and the crowd parts so she can be carried out. I think that shows a great side of the band and it’s fans, because I know there are a lot of shows that people just don’t seem to care about anything but hurting each other. As far as this live performance and band go, you can tell that all these people are a great community and may almost consider each other family. The home video section of this DVD, called Faster Than the World, consists of just a bunch of clips of backstage action mixed with concert footage and some traveling in between shows type of stuff. There is also some wedding footage. Aw, how cute. The concert footage at some points is mixed with studio recorded songs. I don’t really like that for a home video section of a DVD. I think it’s much better when bands show actual live footage with the sound if they’re going to use it. They do this also, live footage with live sound. Unfortunately most of the clips have very poor sound quality. Some of the things that are included also make this section of the DVD seem like they threw together every single little moment they ever recorded on home video. There is a haircut, there is a grocery shopping trip, there is people getting out of the tour van for about 2 seconds. So yeah, I guess if you are a fan of this band you will appreciate these little things. As far as the extras section, maybe my player is messed up, but I only see two videos, a thank you section, a part where Toby skates in the Brooklyn projects, and another part where his young son rocks out. But I feel as though I am missing something, because the DVD case says there are about 6 music videos. If they are at the ends of the other sections, either my player is lame, or I am lame, because I can not get to them. All I can say is that if you are a fan of this band already you will definitely want this DVD because it has just about everything you could want. I hadn’t heard much of this band before, but now I feel like I know them a lot better, so even if you’re only slightly interested in H2O, this is a good DVD to pick up because you will learn a lot about this band, as there is great variety to be watched here. ![]()
