Well, I have never heard of this band, Izrael before. They are a reggae band from Poland, who according to wikipedia, started in the 80’s. This DVD is a recording of a live show in 1991. Also according to Wikipedia, this band has been finished for quite a while, so I find it interesting that a DVD of a live performance recorded at a high school back in the 90’s is being put out, unless maybe the band is thinking about doing something new. The band is definitely a reggae band. All the usual elements of reggae are here. There is the one guitar player who plays the more ambient leads and solo type riffs. The other guitar player who plays the upbeat ska sounding riffs. The bass player with the bouncy repetitive pieces that just follow along with what else is going on. The drummer with his upbeat poppy drums. There is also a person with keyboards supplying some background music, and there is a saxophone player who comes in every once in a while. As far as the live performance goes on this DVD, the band is doing pretty well. The only shots of the crowd are kind of placed in the background in a trippy way. Obviously edited in later. So you see the band playing, and then you see a different camera angle of the crowd superimposed to where you are seeing both at the same time. I can only slightly tell that the audience is having a good time. The band is definitely having a good time. They start sweating right away. The editing on this DVD does annoy me in a way with all the super imposed and trippy visual effects. I guess you’re supposed to get really stoned before you watch this or something. The thing I do happen to love about this DVD is the navigation. It is broken into two sections. You can choose either the live concert, or you can choose the extras section. The live concert menu allows you to select each individual song. While the extras section allows you to choose between interviews with the band, bonus videos, discography, photos, art and more. There is also a section at the title menu where you can choose your sound set up. It is a very complete package. I don’t know who I would recommend this to, other than who I always recommend DVDs to, which are fans of the bands. I’m sure this is a DVD that Izrael fans would want, because it seems pretty definitive. Also if you like reggae, you might want to check this out, but I don’t know if I’d recommend for a bunch of new people to get into a band that is supposedly defunct. ![]()
