After you select that you want to play the concert, then you select if you want surround or stereo, then you select to play the concert. I am thinking this could have been done better. That is a lot of buttons to push just to get the thing to play. That is a pretty petty complaint though. In fact, it is the only complaint I have about this entire thing really. The sound quality on here is pretty damn good for live. I was amazed at how well John Connelly’s voice has held up. His style seems like the type that would not age well. I do wish that the main concert was longer then the 40 minutes, but that is more then made up for with tons of extra footage. The camera work is done very well with even coverage of each player as well as the audience. I don’t get the joke about the white Nissan though. John brings it up several times throughout the show. Was this an inside joke that the viewer is not meant to get?

As I mentioned before, it is the extras that make this DVD special. There is a very in depth interview with Glenn and Danny it goes on a little longer then it should have, but is still pretty interesting for a ‘softball’ interview. Sadly this is audio only, but as an extra that can be overlooked. There are two extra songs (also audio only) on here as well. One is called “Celtic Frosty Cold Beer” where the vocals sound like Roger Miret of Agnostic Front when he thinks it’s more ‘hardcore’ to not hold a note for longer then half a second. “Folsom Prison Blues” is a song that will appeal to the fans that like the faster Nuclear Assault material. Neither is the best NA material you will ever hear, but still a nice extra. Then there is the sections that I think make this DVD so great. The archive of live footage. This has the band live in Japan for 21 minutes, live at Hammersmith for 5 minutes, and one section that is just listed as ‘live in 85’. Sure this footage isn’t the slickest around, but if you are a fan of this band the rawness of it all is part of what makes it so great. There are two videos here from the last album. Funny how I never saw Headbangers Ball play these. Oh wait, that’s not a metal show anymore. There is also a bunch of photos here. Now some may like having still photos on a DVD, but I have always felt that still photos are something fans should look at on the band’s website. A DVD is for moving pictures.

So who should buy this? Well, sometimes a DVD is for the hardcore fans of the band and sometimes it is done in a way that it might be a good introduction to the band. This is not for new fans. This is only going to be worthwhile for the long term fans of the band that already know the material. This did Rock My Monkey, but I have been following the band for a very long time. I have a funny story about my little brother and the world premier of their video for “Brainwashed” (not on this DVD) off of the Survive cd. That’s for another time though. For now all you need to know is that this DVD is a must for any Nuclear Assault fan.
