Jack Frost in one big metal fanboy! If you want to get this guy talking, just bring up the subject of metal and he just goes off like a rocket. Many give a ton of lip service about how they do it because they love it, but I believe it most with Jack. When watching this thing it seems like the man was doing his best to give the fans the most he could with the budget he had. This thing is packed with extras that they overshadow the main concert feature! Sure the sound quality could have been better, but this is your chance to hear the band in a raw and unfiltered form. While sonically not as sharp as some bigger budget DVD releases, it does have this sort of underground metal appeal to it all. Speaking of underground appeal, this features James Rivera on vocals for most of the footage. This guy’s greatest asset is also his weakness. He is so vintage metal that he has a very small but extremely loyal following. If he would only lose the trench coat I think his stage presence would improve greatly. It seems to work for him like a podium for a guest speaker. He hides behind it like a security blanket. He also loves going into the super high pitched vocal way too much. He is at his best when he stays in the mid range.

Now although the audio on here is pretty raw, the camera work and the editing are pretty damn well. I wouldn’t say it is as good as most of the super high budget releases or even the DVDs released by Metal Mind Productions, but it is pretty damn well. It looks like they are using several cameras and they never stoop to the whiplash editing. I hate it when low budget metal videos are going back and forth between cameras so quick that it induces seizures. The fact that they don’t do that gains them major points in my book. The only other major complaint is that the extras section doesn’t have a “Play All” button that I could find. All the extras would play nicely as one long secondary feature.

Now this is one of those rare situations where the extras do in fact overshadow the main feature. Sure the main concert is well over an hour long, but the extras is where Jack goes into ‘fanboy’ detail about every aspect of the Seven Witches history. Here he talks about every important moment that helped this band develop as well as the inspirations for many of the bands most loved classics. He talks to the producer that helped the band develop their sound. He talks to friends of the band about how the band has grown from the humble beginnings. Then on top of it all there is a section where they edited performances from every Seven Witches singer doing the song “Camelot” off of the Second War In Heaven cd. Now I would love to see this re-done when the band gets a bigger budget. The jumps between VHS tape are way too different in both audio and visual, so it isn’t everything it could be. It is however one great idea. I would just like to see it done more seamlessly at some point in the future. Maybe the new version can include the band’s newest (and best in my not so humble opinion) singer Alan Tecchio. If you are a fan of the band Seven Witches, this is a must have. This thing will be a great archive of the band and it’s history. I would have loved to see more archived footage instead of one big long concert with James, but either way this thing did Rock My Monkey!
