From Essen, Germany, hail KREATOR. In the contrails of the success of “Enemy of God”, the band has released the DVD, “Enemy of God Revisited”, of which there is essentially four parts: Part 1: Kreator Live Wacken 2005 This is the complete show that Kreator performed at Wacken 2005. The band is pumped and performs full throttle. Multiple camera angles are utilized – they’re all over the place - behind the drums, side stage, front stage, and above. The viewing angles change frequently providing a feeling of practically being onstage at times. The audience is keyed in on throughout the show. All this provides the best concert-like atmosphere you can create. You want to bang your damn head. To add even most atmosphere, most everything seems to be bathed in a greenish grey-like color. I’d be the first to naysayer to many of these components that are typically overdone or cheapened; however, it works with the video this time around. The setlist is as follows:
Intro There are a couple song medleys that may get a rise out of some of the more devout Kreator fans. However, they are done well and I suspect many fans won’t necessarily consider it a negative aspect to the video. The sound is awesome. For those of you with surround sound – crank it up. Part 2: Kreator Live At The Rockpalast (2005). Recorded at a very small venue, this offers a radical change of pace. When compared to the Wacken performance (Part 1), some might consider this the opposite. Wacken was huge, while The Rockpalast is small. The setting is more intimate and presented in full color. Tracks such as “Renewal” and “Reconquering the Throne” are performed. While doing research on this, it appears this footage was previously broadcasted a famous German live music show. The band perform at 110 percent and puts on a great show. Part 3: Enemy Of God' DTS 96/24 Mix This section allows the entire “Enemy of God” album to be ‘seen’ and listened to. Song lyrics are displayed in an almost karaoke fashion in front of a couple different backgrounds that are along somewhat of the same type as the original album cover. A ‘shaking’ effect is added to the backgrounds, along with a sort of blinking light, which at times one might find a tad annoying. Admittedly, I was expecting a more music video like format; however, this really isn’t remotely close to that. Part 4: Clips from “Enemy Of God” Four videos for the songs “Enemy Of God”, “Dystopia”, “Impossible Brutality”, and “Dying Race Apocalypse” were included. After doing some research, it seems the latter, “Dying Race Apocalypse” was chosen by the band as a result of a competition. The competition included fans submitting their own videos for the song. The video shown on the DVD won the contest. The other section is the “making of the ‘Enemy of God’” documentary. Just about everyone involved offer about their thoughts and interpretations of the clip. Interesting material for the fans. All in all, I’m giving “Enemy of God Revisited” high marks. Even if you’re not a devout KREATOR fan, the live footage alone makes this DVD worth buying. I’m not quite sure why the “'Enemy Of God' DTS 96/24 Mix” was included. Based on content and presentation, it’s pretty much wasted space – unless you’re desiring to familiarize yourself with the lyrics and have the patience to wade through it all. Overall, “Enemy of God Revisited” is a definitive DVD to own for KREATOR fans (a must!), metal fans, and thrash bands that haven’t figured out what it’s all about – I’d advise taking notes on that Wacken 2005 performance. That’s what it’s all about! ![]()
