I have said it many times before and I will say it again. The older I get, the more closed minded I get about my music. I don’t know if I would even be considered a metalhead in today’s times since what I look for in music is more about a good solid rock tune than a metal tune specifically. The elements that make the masses consider something metal today are the exact things that make me hate a band. Testament may be a metal band through and through, but what I like about them is that they have all the elements I look for in a good solid rock band. Sure they are heavy as fuck, but that is what makes them metal. This was Testament at the peak in the career. Debate all you want about The Gathering being their best release to date. I am not talking about that here. I am talking about strictly sales and this is the material from that era. It is also the material I happen to like the most as well. After the band left Atlantic, they seemed to lose their way a little. Some would say that they ‘evolved’, but I would say they started to be more about following what was popular in metal instead of being the leaders they started out as. I also have heard that the band will be returning more to this classic style with the next studio release. So I am more excited about Testament now then I have been since this footage was first released in VHS format so many years ago.

Yes, this is another simple VHS re-release on to DVD. I have heard many people talk about how these are ‘cash-outs’ for the labels, but if you were a huge fan of a release it is exciting to see it come out again in the modern format. I was on the phone with the label when I saw this thing on their catalog in fact. It was the first I had heard of it’s release, so I told him more needed to be informed of this and I should do a review. The rep knows I am a sucker for any heavy shit with that 85-95 metal style, so it was sent out immediately. Now there is not much that can be said about this other then it is now available on DVD. The only thing this has above the more modern format is a some footage of the band eating at some restaurant in Japan and then the band at some temple. Of course they have the standard DVD filler crap like some text biography, discography, photos, and other crap we could see on the official website. So the real greatness here lies in this VHS tape being available in DVD. The original VHS was great enough as it is, so this is just as cool. In fact, it is better because now you can skip to the videos in seconds. The DVD format alone makes this worth getting even if you still have it on VHS like I do.

This does Rock My Monkey and I can give you a 100% guarantee that I will be watching it again and again. In fact, I will end up watching this even more then the VHS since I can navigate through my favorite parts faster then on tape. If you are an old school thrash fan like me, you must get this DVD!
