An impromptu national holiday begins with the masses crowding into the London streets. People from all walks of life come to celebrate with drinks and songs. The sound of triumphant horns can be heard from a distance on such an important day. Soon, a hush falls over the crowd as a bleach blonde, spiked haired man wearing ripped jeans and a Misfits t-shirt walks through the crowd, separating the congregation of people as if he were Moses separating the Red Sea. He holds in his hands a copy of the UK Subs “Warhead: 25th Anniversary Marquee Concert” DVD. The man raises it high into the air as if he is King Arthur holding up Excalibur for all to see and proclaims, “BEHOLD! THE MOST BORING PUNK ROCK DVD IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE!”

I have never been so bored by a live performance from a punk band. Sure, they tried to be energetic, but it has to be hard for a group of old punk rockers to be able to put a whole lot of youthful energy into a show when their skin is sagging from their faces and their guts stick out like camel humps. Granted, this show is a 25-year anniversary show, but these guys haven’t taken care of themselves what so ever. The only band member that looked like he was in reasonable shape was their bassist, Alvin Gibbs. Charlie Harper looks like a bloated manatee with bleached spiky hair wearing a Misfits shirt. Nicky Garrett looks like a refrigerator with a goatee and a guitar. He was jumping up and down and trying to do cool moves with guitars on stage, and I’m surprised that he didn’t throw his back out or something. The worst was the drummer, Steve Roberts, whom I debated with myself as to whether his man-boobs stuck out further than his gut or vice versa. Maybe it was his skin tight white shirt and his white Evel Knevel pants that made him look so fat and out of shape, but goddamn, dude, it was really sad to watch.

I like the UK Subs, so it was sad to see this, because when you think of one of the bigger old school British punk names, you think of the UK Subs along with the Sex Pistols and The Clash… At least I do. I can understand some geezer band like Cream or Santana not to put on a blazing show, but for Christ sakes: This is punk rock! Kiss and Aerosmith aren’t even punk bands and they put out tons of energy in concert and they are older than the UK Subs! I was so bored by this DVD that I turned it off 3 different times to do something else for a while before coming back to watch the rest of it. Yeah, it was THAT bad.

I finished watching the concert and had hoped that the biography part of the DVD would be better. Nope. Worse. It was a written biography. I DON’T WATCH DVD’S TO READ DAMNIT! Basic information. How they got started. Lineup changes. How they ended up, 25 years, later doing this show at the Marquee.

The last part was an interview with the band that turned out to be an abortion. Bad audio combined with other members of the band talking to each other while one member is trying to answer the interviewer’s question. The interview, from what I was able to understand, was mostly about how they wrote their songs and boring shit like that.

I wish that I could give this a lower score than 0 out of 5 stars, but I can’t, so I give this 0 out of 5 stars, for wasting 2 hours of my life.
