Legendary Swedish death metallers Grave have released a home dvd to accompany the release of their latest album entitled "As Rapture Comes". This dvd, entitled "Enraptured" was filmed in Warsaw Poland at the Stodota Club on August 24th, 2006, and is a very well shot performance. Camera angles are plentiful and the pannings are just right, not excessive and to the point of migraine like I have experienced with some live performance dvd's in the past. Musically, the band play very well in their style and the energy translates clearly to the crowd, despite an obvious language barrier that sometimes gets what appears to be less than desirable results. The lineup for this performance consists of Ola Lindgren on vocals and guitar, Jonas Torndal on guitars, Frederik Isaksson on bass, and Pelle Ekegren (who has since left the band) on drums. As far as their music goes, these guys play catchy slowed down death metal in the same style as Six Feet Under or Obituary musically with vocals falling somewhere inbetween Vader and Unleashed styling. There's not really that much over the top technicality and for the life of them the guitarists just can't seem to rip a decent solo, but there's still a very cool vibe with this band. Songs from this live performance span their long career, going as far back as a demo song from the early days, entitled "Reborn Miscarriage" to newer tracks like "Burn" and "By Demons Bred". My favorite song on here is most likely "Soulless", which in my opinion sounds much better with Ola on vocals than Jorgen Sandstrom, the original vocalist for this track. There's also a nice funny bit during the encore where Ola walks too far away from his amp, causing his unplugged guitar to completely dissapear from the sound for a second. Other features include a lengthy interview with Ola and Jonas, and 2 extra live videos from Grave's Party-San appearance in '04. The original video for "Soulless" is also featured, although the production for that bit is very indicative of the times. Overall, I enjoyed this dvd and recommend it to both older and newer fans of Grave, as they tear through a blazing set and remind everyone of why they are one of the true fathers of death metal.
