This DVD is an unauthorized look at the Las Vegas band “The Killers.” This DVD contains no music from the actual band. None of the footage of the band includes real music of theirs. The interviews are from radio personality in the Las Vegas area and the ex-drummer of the band. The editing is shoddy and not linear. There is a weird brightly colored edge around the screen for most of the interview sections, which I don’t think adds to the DVD at all. It’s like whoever in charge was trying to be creative, but it really would look better without the distracting edges.

The story of the band is that they formed in 2002 in Las Vegas. They were doing the British New Wave influenced thing right at the height of metal-core. It was hard for them to get booked because they were so different, but it seems they had a fairly good following right away. There was difficulty in the music scene in Las Vegas though because of the fact that there were no all ages shows. They recorded their first album for around $1000 and distributed it to local dj’s. The local dj’s interviewed talk about the first time they played The Killers’ songs.

After recording the album, the band switched drummers. The new drummer wasn’t very tight at first, so he went back to school and started sounding better. Since the band had a lot of European influences they made their way to the UK and found themselves being accepted quickly. Once they gained a following there, they came back to the States and were able to sell a lot of records very quickly.

Most of this DVD consists of the story of the band, a few tidbits here and there about individual members, and how they all get along together. Since there is no music from the band, it was very hard to get into and be interested in the story. Near the end of the DVD the interviewed people talk about their favorite stand out tracks, which I really don’t see the point, since they can’t play the music in the background. After that it becomes repetitive. Some clips of things people already said show up for a second time, as well as the same clips of Las Vegas used throughout the entire DVD.

I guess fans of The Killers might enjoy this DVD because it tells about how the band came together and has a little bit of inside tidbits. For the most part, however, this is not a very well put together look at this band. I would suggest that diehard fans pick this one up, but they might have better luck with a DVD released from the actual band. Perhaps one that is authorized, and has real music and video clips.
