Ya know it really sucks when you forget to save. About a week ago I wrote the first half of this review out on a morning before work. Because of this I was running a little late, so I quickly closed out everything, threw all my stuff in my backpack, and rushed of to work. Several minutes into my shift it dawns on me that in rushing around so much I closed everything without saving. So I know it has nothing to do with this dvd, but remember to save every few minutes. I also had way more problems trying to play this dvd than I really should have. Nothing really wrong with the dvd, just problems with old DVD players that need to be replaced and brand spanking new machines that are running Vista and are full of tweaky bugs that make no sense at all. I do have to say that it would have been a little more easy if the second disc had a play all button though. So here I am the night before I need to post this review and send the link to my contact who has been insanely patient about all of this insanity. I say all of this to point out that sometimes even the greatest release from one of my favorite band's gets buried. On to the actual review.

So here is the DVD version of the now legendary Live After Death cd. The first disc is pretty much just that. Now you can see the band play the set live. Was this ever released on VHS or anything? Why was this footage held back so long? Why wait until now to release it? Anyways, the thing is amazing and almost flawless. I say almost because on the first song Bruce sounds like absolute shit. Does he not warm up? After the first song he sounds like his freakishly talented self, but that first song he sounds worst than many of the local band's in my area I do my best to ignore. It's 90 minutes of pure Iron Maiden greatness. I have played this DVD on several players and can say that it sounds great on both the full sound system as well as the shitty speakers that came with my laptop. The footage is done so well that it again begs the question, 'Why did it take so long to release this on DVD'? This alone with worth the price of the DVD.

Now they also stick a second disc in here. I love to rip on bands for doing two disc dvd releases. Most of the time they split 2 hours of footage onto two discs just so they can call it a two disc set. Most of the time the two disc set is nothing more than a lame ass marketing scam. Here you get over four hours of footage most band's would sell on four separate releases. This time you get a documentary of the band where all kinds of stories are told. Some times they are very funny, sometimes they tell you the back story on some part of the Iron Maiden legend, and sometimes it just reminds you why this band has remained such a Goliath in the industry for so long. Then you get nearly an hour of the band doing a set in Rio. This is not the same Rock In Rio footage released as it's own DVD a few years ago. This is footage from 1985 and it looks and sounds great. The 'Behind the Iron Curtain' documentary is very cool as well. Instead of just the performance straight through like the others, this one splices up the musical performances with the band giving stories about their visit, interviews with people that helped bring the band to Poland, and even footage of the band playing the role of a cover band at a wedding!

There is several hours here and this is one packed two disc set. This is a must for any Iron Maiden fan. This thing truly did Rock My Monkey!
