Does Olympia Want A Metal Festival?

Well Olympia, do ya? This is a test to see how bad Olympia wants a full scale Metal and Hard Rock festival in our city.

Here are the details:

$5 - Our heartfelt thanks

$10 - Your name event website and our heartfelt thanks.

$25 - Your name on thank you posters all over event, and everything mentioned above.

$50 - Free ticket to event, and everything mentioned above.

$100 - Official event shirt in S, M, L, X-l, 2x-L, 3X-L, or 4X-L, and everything mentioned above.

$500 - 2 free tickets, and everything mentioned above.

$1,000 - Your name on the event shirt, and everything mentioned above.

$5,000 - Mark Carras will list your name from the stage in a thank you speech right before announcing the headliner, and everything mentioned above.

$10,000 - Mark Carras will list your name from the stage AND BOW TO YOUR GREATNESS WHILE ON HIS KNEES in a thank you speech right before announcing the headliner, and everything mentioned above.

$20,000 - Your own 10 person guest list, with free event shirts for each guest, as well as everything mentioned above.

The goal for this event is 10 grand. This will pay for proper promotion, production, and ensure that this will not be just a one time event. All funds will go back into the event. This means that neither Mark Carras nor RockMyMonkey will pocket a single penny. Bands will get paid, but we will not. What do we get out of the event then? Why would we do this for free? For all this work we will get a ton of promotion. That is our pay off and it is plenty.

If we get more than 10 grand, it will go to getting a bigger headliner so local bands open for a bigger crowd. Bands WILL NOT have to sell tickets. Bands WILL NOT have to front money to play. Bands will be only expected to be on stage on time, play their promised set, have a good time, and collect their money. Yes, local bands will get paid.

Why should you care?
I hear it all the time how Hard Rock and Metal gets the shaft in Olympia. This is our chance to do something about that! We will have bands from Olympia (Thurston County), Tacoma (Pierce County), Seattle (King County), and maybe a signed band or two if their guarantee isn't too high. Imagine an event in our area that is promoted like a major event, but featuring our scene? It's about respect and I think it is time our scene got some!

What can you do?
Small donations really add up. If people see this thing go up even $5 every few hours, maybe they will kick in $5. It is also extremely important that we have some social networking cheerleaders of sorts. This means re-posting this on your Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and voting it up on Stumble Upon. In fact, spreading the word like crazy is more important than that $5 donation. Seriously.

But I'm from another state?
So what? If we pull this off here how easy do you think it will be for your local scene to copy the idea. Your re-post or donation is a vote for the idea, not the specific event. Oh yeah, please do copy this idea. If I pull it off I will offer my free consulting services on how to do it.

What bands will play?
Well, this might shoot the whole thing down right away, but I am looking for bands with mass appeal. So we will be using our chart at RockMyMonkey.net to see what bands can promote themselves the best. I don't care if you are a band that sings, growls, has blast beats, or whatever. If you can promote yourself you will probably end up playing this event. I prefer more Old School Hard Rock and Metal, but my personal tastes mean nothing on this one.

Isn't doing this Kickstarter the same as Pay To Play?
No because I am not necessarily asking bands to pay. If a band pays it does not have any weight on if they play. I am asking the general public. I am asking the local Metal and Hard Rock scene. Not bands specifically. Bands will never, have never, and should never pay a penny to play any RockMyMonkey event. If someone tells you otherwise please punch them for me. If you donate to this cause, you are helping to make sure bands do not pay to play a respectable show.
