Northern Minnesota fan here. I was a Vixen fan back in junior high, lost track of them after the band broke up in the early '90s, then rediscovered them when I started rebuilding my rock collection after college.
What really cemented them as a favorite, though, was a show they put on in Walker, MN, last month. They sounded incredible, their new songs rocked every bit as much as the classics and they just did everything right. In particular, Lynn and Jenna know how to work a crowd. The girls came out afterward to meet us, signed autographs and took pictures with everyone who wanted one. (Mine is now my computer wallpaper at both home and work.) Probably more than any band I've ever seen in concert, they showed their fans that they really appreciated us.
The new Live & Learn album just blew me away and that's what every music fan on my list is getting for his or her birthday this year. It's been a big hit with everyone so far.

Thanks for the welcome, Vixenjovi! It's very cool to see someone your age with an appreciation for great music.
Minnesota!! you and Martin are soo rubbing it in!!!
Well, maybe just a little. Vixen is a heckuva live band and you will definitely get your money's worth if you can make it to one of their shows.
In the meantime, if you check out the interview Mark Carras linked earlier in this topic, Jan mentions that they're working on a DVD of the Sweden Rocks concert--the basis of the Extended Versions CD--for release (hopefully) this summer. That would be the next best thing to being there.
It would also be very cool if they did a video for "I Try." ...Or anything else off of the Live & Learn album, for that matter.

I heard and read the interview...LOL...trust me, being only 16, I missed out on the first few years of Vixen, I don't intend on missing anything this time around...great?? great!! Vixen isn't great!! it's the best music EVER!!! they are AWESOME!!!! :)

Good approach. That's why I spent three hours frantically digging out my driveway after my snowblower died on concert night last month. Blizzard or no, there was no way I was missing that show. I paid for it the rest of the weekend, but it was worth it.
So, curious, VJ: You mentioned that you got into Vixen about two years ago... how'd that come about? Hear them on the radio? Run across a CD somewhere? Friend or parent who was a fan? And what made them click for you?

okay...well my friend saw Vixen on Band's Reunited, she immediatly though of me, she made me listen to 'Edge'. I didn't like it at first, but after listening to it over and over again, I began liking it. Then I though 'woah! these girls can rock!!' so I began looking for more on Vixen and more songs...on a trip to New York last year, I was able to buy 'Vixen' and 'Rev it Up' then I got the rest of the CDs online...LOL...when I first heard of the new lineup I was soo angry! I couldn't believe they weren't together anymore!! and that Jan had continued Vixen!! but I was decided to like Vixen, I mean, Vixen is Vixen...I heard Jan and the new crew and they were really good!! now I'm a fan for life!!!....as for what made them click for me...I think it's the fact that they are all girls and that they are really really good at what they do...they are such awesome role models, I am planning on following in their footsteps...also, a lot of the songs have saved my life!! and inspired me to make great changes in my life too...oops! sory this is so long...LOL...hope it helps

I need to track down that episode of Bands Reunited. That would be very cool to see. (Alas, I don't have cable up here in Siberia.)
A couple of my friends have kids who are old enough to be interesting and I've been making sure they have a proper introduction to real music, like Vixen. Whenever I give them a CD, I try to find a way to present it that I think they'll be able to relate to. The girls in those families are all 'tweens and I've been pitching the "Vixen proves that girls can rock just as hard as the boys" angle with them. So, VJ, even though you're a few years older than my friends' daughters, it's interesting to hear that the all-girl aspect was one of the things that sold you on Vixen. Maybe it'll do the same for them.

Hey guys,
Some of you may already know me through the VixenWorld Mailing List (or even MySpace/YouTube perhaps). But for those of you who don't, I'm just another huge Vixen fan who loves and appreciates the band as much as you do!
So, where's everyone else all of whom shall remain nameless ?! :P
VJ, did you finally get to see that BR episode ?

Hi, I'm Jamie and I've been a Vixen fan since their first hit. I even have all the original LPs (kids, ask your folks about those big black round things).
I got to FINALLY see them live this past Saturday in Merrill where I live and work. I had the pleasure of photographing both their show and that of Dokken after them for the newspaper I work for here in town.
I got to meet the band after the show, and was even shooting Dokken while Lynn did, too. I will say this much: I have met a lot of musicians in my career, but the classy ladies of Vixen have to rate in the top five as far as giving to their fans and hanging around way, WAY past when just about every other band would have left.
If you put a gun to my head and made me pick a favorite member of the band, it would HAVE to be Lynn. Then again, I'm partial to female bass players for some reason.
:D

Welcome aboard, Jamie, we're glad to have you. How was the concert? If you have photos, we'd love to see them. I had entertained hopes of making it down to Merrill, but it's about a 900-mile roundtrip and I just couldn't swing it.
I caught the girls up here in northern Minnesota in March and they totally rocked. Like you, I was EXTREMELY impressed with their willingness to hang out, meet their fans, sign autographs and take pictures with us. The one I had taken has become a real conversation piece.

We have some photos up on our newspaper website:
http://www.merrillcourier.net/ROCK_N_ROLL.html
(Our graphic designer/webmaster *cough* didn't do the images justice)
We had about five shots from both sets in the paper today (we're a weekly) but the color pages were taken with our 4th of July tribute, so they ran in color.
I'll have a BUNCH up on my freelance site (1st link in my signature) in a few days. I have my 9-year old daughter visiting from Michigan until Saturday and need to start getting her DVD of images ready for her to take home with her.
I also have a concert to shoot tomorrow night for the paper.
But I plan on getting both Vixen and Dokken up on that site very quickly.
You want to see some other classic rock acts I've shot in the last year, go to my freelance site.

Hey I'm Domino1978. I chose my user name from a KISS song. I heard somewhere that one of Vixen's influences are KISS. Whether that's tue or not, I don't know!
I live in England. I first got into VIXEN when I saw them in Metal Hammer magazine when the line-up was Jan, Roxy and Janet. These chicks rock.:monkeybang :cool
Shooter5150

I have had this user name since 1998, in fact my friends call me "Shooter" because of it. Even when I ran a photography business in Indiana known as Red Wolf Imaging, I couldn't shake the nickname, so I allowed it to stick.
It has triple meaning. For three of my six years in the Army, I was a sniper, which carries the tag of "Shooter" in an infantry unit. The other three years, I was a photojournalist, which is also known as a "shooter."
The 5150 comes from the Van Halen song and album of the same name. I put the whole username together when I first got into the Internet and was posting on a Sammy Hagar message board (I'm STILL a member of it, BTW).
:thumbsup

Hmm ok, I’ve been a Vixen fan for about 20 yrs now, glad to see this great band’s still alive n rockin. I’ll admit it took me a while to get used to the new lineup: I so loved the “original” Vixen that I just couldn’t think of a different lineup, especially without Janet Gardner. But have to say that the “new” ladies kick major ass and yes, L&L is a great album. Can’t wait to see the gurls live again.
Not many ppl in here huh?

Welcome aboard, Nasty . It's been pretty quiet around here lately, but people do drop in from time to time, including a certain bass player and singer.
The current lineup puts on a kick-ass live show, so you will definitely get your money's worth if you can catch them in concert.
