Rev It Up is one of those rare albums where I never feel the need to skip a track, but there are still a couple that stand out as favorites, songs that will prompt me to hit repeat whenever they come up on shuffle play.
"Love Is A Killer" was easily my favorite Vixen song for 17 years, until "I Try" came along. Now it's something of a toss-up between those two for my overall favorite. "Killer" is pretty much the perfect song, at least for my tastes. I'm a sucker for piano in a rock song, especially paired with a nice, heavy bass. I also love the plaintive tone when the guitar first kicks in: It really sets the mood. From that point on, it just amazes me the way the pieces fit together, all the different layers. And no disrespect to Jenna, who sounds amazing in concert, but I love the sort of rasping quality to Janet's vocal. I think it adds a sense of vulnerability that drives the song home.
"Streets in Paradise" is a blast to listen to, just a rollicking good time. That's one to fire up whenever I want to wind the car out on some empty back road. It could even be prophetic: If the cops ever catch me doing 100+ miles an hour, I'll definitely pay the price and it won't be cheap.
How about everyone else? What's your favorite song from Rev It Up, and why?
