I randomly ended up seeing some of this movie on FX last week and was prompted to pick it up a couple of days later. I now think that it just may be the best military movie ever made. Does anyone else here like it?

The major amounts of endless hype it gets even to this day has kept me from watching it. I am sure someday I will be stuck at someones house when it is playing, but it just seems like cashing in on the misery of soldiers.

While I've heard the movie's name mentioned here and there during the past few years, I don't think I'd call it ridiculously overhyped in the way that, let's say, Star Wars is. I also wouldn't say that it cashes on the misery of soldiers. Sure quite a few of them died, but the point of the movie seemed to be more about how everyone involved in the situation was there to make sure that they all got through it safely. Afterall, the movie's tagline is "Leave No Man Behind." Therefore, if you do get around to watching Black Hawk Down at some point, you'll probably like it.

Nah, I hate 99% of military movies. They seem to be more about tag lines, clichés, and just bug me. I did like Full Metal Jacket. It was ok, but not something I would buy on a dvd.

I'm also not a fan of military movies, which is a major reason why I have such an easy time calling BHD "the best military movie ever made."

As for Full Metal Jacket, I thought that it got monumentally boring after the basic training part, which was more comedy than anything else.

It is a great movie, though inaccurate (but what movie can be COMPLETELy accurate right?). For instance, Ranger Matt Eversmann (played by Josh Hartnett) was only INTIALLY part of the ground assault. Early on he was picked up and fought as part of the rescue convoy.

Yeah, it's more about comradeship than the battle of Mogadishu itself.

here is the ranger code, incase you didn't know

Recognizing that I volunteered as a Ranger, fully knowing the hazards of my chosen profession, I will always endeavor to uphold the prestige, honor, and high esprit de corps of my Ranger Regiment.

Acknowledging the fact that a Ranger is a more elite soldier who arrives at the cutting edge of battle by land, sea, or air, I accept the fact that as a Ranger my country expects me to move farther, faster and fight harder than any other soldier.

Never shall I fail my comrades. I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be. One-hundred-percent and then some.

Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained soldier. My courtesy to superior officers, neatness of dress and care of equipment shall set the example for others to follow.

Energetically will I meet the enemies of my country. I shall defeat them on the field of battle for I am better trained and will fight with all my might. Surrender is not a Ranger word. I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy and under no circumstances will I ever embarrass my country.

Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission though I be the lone survivor.

Rangers lead the way!

If you notice

the first letter of each paragrpah spells RANGER

Awesome movie! I love the part where the guy looks to his commanding officer and says: "They're shooting at us! The C.O. say: " Well shoot back! " I love that part.
