ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Frank Bello will perform with Whitfield Crane (ANOTHER ANIMAL, ex-UGLY KID JOE, LIFE OF AGONY, MEDICATION) at Retox, the New York City club co-owned by Ian, on Thursday, June 14.
Retox (511 West 28th Street) was opened by Ian and club owner Mike Diamond, who started Snitch, Pangaea and Vela.
New York Post reported earlier in the year that Ian and Diamond are shopping a rock-themed pilot to the networks. No further information is currently available.
ANTHRAX announced its split with vocalist Joey Belladonna in January, less than two years after the group's classic lineup reunited for a "25th anniversary" tour. A replacement singer will be announced at the end of June, according to Ian. Rumored candidates include Crane, ARMORED SAINT/ex-ANTHRAX vocalist John Bush, "American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice and STONE SOUR/SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor, according to various Internet message boards.

No selection for Neil Turbin??? :D I think it's a total mystery, but considering they were able to replace Belladonna with Bush, who knows who they'll try to get next. I wouldn't put it past them to get someone like Corey Taylor.

Oh shit! I can't believe I forgot Neil! :uhoh I seriously don't think it could be Corey though. He is way too busy with two band's already. As soon as one band is done with an album cycle he immediately starts up with the other one for a couple years.
With Whit, Another Animal is a side band of Godsmack members. Anthrax could be his full time band. Plus, he has proven he can do material like that already.

Isn't Phil Anselmo also a rumored candidate?

Yeah, but I only had ten options. That's just how insane this whole thing is. There are about 15 different possibility's.
i might actually start listening to anthrax if phil starts singing for them.

It better not be Phil Anselmo. Despite my personal dislike of him, he can't sing worth crap and Anthrax needs a real singer.

Yeah, Phil's voice is fucking shot now along with his brain. Even if he has stopped taking herion, he still talks likes he is drugged up 24/7. He is not at all what he used to be sad to say.

It's been posted on the Blabb that Corey Taylor is been writing with them. Oh, how the mighty have fallen...
SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor has confirmed that he has been working with ANTHRAX on material for their upcoming studio album. Speaking to Germany's Rock Hard magazine, Taylor said of the possibility that he will become the new ANTHRAX singer, "It's been banded about. I'm not saying anything right now because all it's been is just talked about. Obviously, I'm really good friends with those guys. It kind of started as a joke. And then the more we talked about it, the more serious it got. I'm gonna at least help them out. It's kind of a dream come true — ANTHRAX is one of my favorite bands. We're just kind of taking baby steps right now. I know that we worked on about eight or nine songs together that I've written lyrics for, and there was a song that I had actually written for them that I was just gonna give them the music for, and once this kind of happened, I had to turn around and write lyrics for it myself. But there's nothing definite right now. It's one of those things where it's like we're just gonna kind of play it by ear and just see what happens. So there's nothing definite. It's something that we're talking about — it's something that we kind of wanna do. But I'm in two huge bands right now. So it's like I barely get enough time to sleep, let alone do another band. . . I'm gonna be busy, period. I'm just kind of honored that they would even consider me. These are people that I grew up listening to, these are guys that I had the privilege of getting to know on a real basis. To have them look at me and go, 'You know what? We would love to work with you,' it's such a huge compliment. It kind of makes me feel like I've come a long way in my life."
A video clip of ANTHRAX performing its cover of the PUBLIC ENEMY classic "Bring the Noise" with Corey Taylor at the 2003 With Full Force festival in Germany is available for viewing at YouTube.

Hmmm....while pretty much anyone on earth is better than Belladonna, I don't see Corey Taylor in Anthrax....I just can't get my head around that one.
Bring back John Bush, damn you's!!
Maybe I'm the only who wants this to happen, but I'd very much like to see what Anthrax would sound like with Whitfield Crane.

Yeah, WHit would be able to put way more time into it. Corey Taylor has no other choice then to treat Anthrax like his bitch. Plus, will Roadrunner let him do this? I just don't see it lasting any length of time. Here he has been talking about getting Slipknot going again one last time as soon as the album cycle for Stone Sour is done. So what get's put on the back burner? The band that hits in the top ten on Billboard still or a band that can barely keep a record contract? Will he blow off a band that still gets top billing on shows or the band that can barely draw enough to do a coast to coast tour in the US anymore?
My point is that although he is "writing", might record, and could do a few shows, I doubt he will do any major touring with them and the real new singer will have to be chosen before too long. Either that or Anthrax is a side project for everyone involved.

Whitfield is an interesting option......but I don't think he'd fit either. I, in my mind, just can't fit anyone but John Bush.
Damnit. If it's anyone other than Joey or John, it's not Anthrax, I think.......

True, but above all else, I'm just curious to hear how Whitfield Crane would sound like in an actual metal band.
Sure Ugly Kid Joe had plenty of songs that resembled metal to one extent or another, but they were more of a "hard rock band that was out to have a good time" instead of a "serious, intense metal band."
Also, is it just me, or was Ugly Kid Joe the only rock band that fit somewhere between the hair bands and the grunge bands during the early and mid-90's?

As impulsive as the core thrax team seems to be I wouldn't put it past them to try and get Corey Taylor. I wouldn't like it but I could definitely see it happening.
As far as Phil Anselmo goes, he wouldn't be the best fit as a permanent singer. I think it would be cool if he joined them onstage to perform a few Anthrax tunes and we got to hear them, but not on a permanent basis. Plus I would rather see him continue to concentrate on making Down records.
Fred Durst needs a job.
If Fred Durst ever joins Anthrax, I will have no choice but to kill Scott Ian.
