so I wanna buy an ipod but I don't know shit about programming them.It would be really cool to listen to while I'm cleaning.Noone around and in the dead of night.I need some Death Metal tunes to listen to.The only thing is they seem really complicated to me. Are they expensive? I know they're tiny and don't get in the way. Anyone know of some kind easy to program??? Anyone?? Any info you have would be greatly appreciated..thanks..:metal

I own a Zune, and I've seen them down to $200 on sale sometimes. There's a learning curve but it's not that complicated, and I've got a leather case with a belt clip so it's easy to wear while walking around. From what I've seen the Ipod isn't a whole lot different, but they've got the cheaper ones like the Nano which is inexpensive but only plays on random or something like that, and there's no screen on it.

The first couple days of me having my ipod I pretty much just spent being pissed off - they assume you automatically know how to use one, so the little booklet that comes with it barely gives any instructions.
Now that I kinda know what I'm doing I really love it.
But really if you just want an mp3 player to have to listen to at work or something, a cheaper version might be more in order.
The ipod shuffles are the little ones without screens. They're way cheaper and good for just music.
I got a 30 gig ipod with video screen and it was $250.
You HAVE to download itunes to your computer. Then you have to rip your cd's into mp3 format and save them to somewhere in your computer... then you have to open itunes, have your ipod plugged in, (it's easier to click the "manage music manually" option as well) then you go to "file" and then "import file" or something like that, then you have to move the file over to itunes. If your ipod is plugged in, you then go to your "music" list and then drag the songs you want to the "ipod" icon about halfway down the screen. (You will have a generic Itunes "music" list, and once you pull songs over to the ipod you will also have "music" list under your ipod icon, but you will have to CLICK on the stinkin ipod icon to have the music option pop up underneath it. - Yes this is as complicated as it sounds -)
ALLLLL that shit I NEVER would have freakin' known so I'm glad I had my hubby and brother in law to help me or else I would have been a mess of tears and the ipod would have been broken into pieces from being smashed against the wall.
I would highly recommend having someone you know who has an ipod already come over and help you get it set up when you first bring it home.

Fuck the iPod. Fuck the Zune. Go for a straight up MP3 player. This way your files can be played on any player. Both iPod and Zune put all kinds of DRM on your files and that will make them not able to be played on every machine without a ton of hassle.
Also, never buy music online. It is full of DRM too for the most part. There are some places that are starting to offer DRM free stuff though. E-Music is one of them. EMI announced very recently that they were going to start offering their stuff DRM free as well. Most of online file purchases are fucked though.

I just got a Coby MP3 player. K-mart is making a killing selling these things. My wife also has one and she loves it. Mine has 1GB of storage, not enough room for all of music I want to hear, but for $40 I think it was a steal. I got mine from amazon and I believe they have some with more memory, but the price goes up as well. I will probably get a better one, but this will work for now...

You're vintage ;)
Don't worry, up until October I was totally dragging my Discman around the gym. Everyone else had snazzy mp3 players attached to their arms, and there I was with my dinosaur discman laying up on the controls of the treadmill lol!

I tried that, but it sucked batteries so damn quick it drove me nuts. Plus the latest stuff can carry at least 20 full cd's in something that is one tenth the size and weight.

the reason I didn't ever use discman players is because they always skip on me.I always recorded cd's onto blank cassettes for my walkman. These new mini CD player things are just too cool for me to pass up any longer.I'm going to pay my sister to program one of those things for me.She's smarter than me about computer stuff.I'll have to reread the posts again and shop around for prices..thanks:monkeythumb

I would recommend against the mini cd as well. Just go for a straight up MP3 player. The battery life is way better and you can store way more music on it. Because it is "solid state" (meaning no moving parts) it can't skip. The mini cd is just that...a smaller cd. meaning it does have moving parts and can/does skip.

I assume your saying this since the one I traded you for the battery is toasted. Before my friend used that ipod it worked fine he kept plugging it into a usb port instead of firewire and he fucked up that battery. Next time i see you i'd gladly help you fix it since the battery's can be replaced like any other device it's just tricky. The zune is ok just way to big for my taste and I doubt it would work on my mac as well as a ipod so its definitely not my thing but the sharing music with other zune players with wireless is kinda cool but everyone I know has a ipod so that feature does not make me want to buy one.

With iPods you have the choice what formates to rip your files as and are not forced to use drm. I never used the itunes store for music but movies and music videos is why I like the itunes store it had pirates 2 on there before it was on Dvd.

Yeah, as long as you never buy music online (which is a good idea anyways) I can see how it wouldn't be a problem. Just like I have all my music ripped to my computer and then transfer it to the SD card before I step out for work.
Not saying that the iPod is a horrid nightmare. It CAN work. In fact, it is one of the more user friendly methods out there. I just prefer to use one that does not come with "software" at all. If I have to put software on my computer to use my portable music player I say fuck it.

I can see what your saying I suppose since I been using iTunes since it came out not a big transition for me. I could see how learning how to use iTunes could be a task and a half for most people who use windows. Also having a all in one device is nice but using a phone/mp3 player/movie player is way more than I need even tho I'd love to get a iphone.

I'm with Fleshripper as I've been using iTunes since before the iPod and then later the iTunes store came out.
As for the iPod using DRM this isn't true at all. The only songs that are DRMed are ones you buy online.

I found that my Ipod was simple and easy to use, on the first night I had it.
