does it anger anyone else that when you post a list of your favorite metal bands somewhere, tons upon tons of people tear you apart because metallica and black sabbath aren't even on the list (let alone not being number one)??

my friends and i that are into some of the same undergroundish stuff tell each other about bands all year long. then we you know ask each other how we'd rate everyone/rank/and who would be on the list. i compiled my list and NO METALLICA AND BLACK SABBATH ARE DEFFINITLY NOT ON THE FUCKING LIST. who gives a flying turd? I DON'T LIKE THOSE BANDS. i'm not ignorant. i've listened to them. i simply don't think their talent even compares to the better half of the underground. this is my god damn opinion.

my friends made their lists and some threw metallica in there. i did not tear them apart in the slightest, nor did the tear me apart. but some of the other people who read it got really pissed that i didn't even include bands like metalli-crap.

i listen to what i listen to. if you don't like it, i don't give a shit. and i don't give a FUCK if you hate me for it.

I understand what you're talking about but in the complete opposite sense.

I get blasted all the time for my love of mainstream. But I don't really give a crap, as I'm sure you can tell by my posts around here. Because I like what I like. If I get introduced to a band that isn't popular, and their music is good, I will like them as well... I usually just like what I hear, no matter where it comes from (underground, mainstream, some bar, whatever) as long as the riffs are tight, the beats are heavy, and the singer doesn't suck.

Don't freaking worry about what others think of bands you like. I don't, and it's worked pretty well for me.

I could understand if it was a list of band's that were historically important to the metal scene that they would be pissed you didn't include band's like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, or even Metallica. That is a whole different list though. Your list is what your opinion is. There is no debate on what your opinion is. You are the only one who can say what your opinion is.

Those people can hate the band's in your list all they want. They can downplay the importance of those bands all they want. This does not change your personal opinion. If they don't understand that then they are just plain stupid.

i wouldnt put black sabbath (atleast ozzy era) on any favorites list of mine, for sure. metallica's justice album is definitely in my top 10 though.

On the other hand, I get tons of shit from people because I don't get all excited about all the band's that use blast beats and growl vocals. I get shit because I want to hear depth and range along with brutality.

I also get people who say I hate all death metal just because I hate the band's that everyone else is hyped into thinking are great. I know Slasher has been mocked for his taste as well. Opinion is just that. Opinion. It is your personal preference. It has nothing to do with facts, technical playing level, or anything else. People just need to understand that.

The most difficult part of understanding this (it seems to me) is that people can't understand how one person can hear something different then what they hear in a piece of music. Now my favorite example is the brutality of death and black metal. Some hear something brutal and extreme, while others hear something silly and goofy. It is because one hears one thing and another person hears another that makes it so that we can't understand how someone can't love our favorite band. Because me and Slasher do not hear something brutal in most of the death metal doesn't make it any less of a style of music...just like Vish not being a fan of Pink Floyd doesn't make them any less of a band.

In short, just because you do not hear that something special that someone else hears, it does not make that style of music less respectable. I am sure that for every single well known rock/metal/punk/goth/industrial/etc band there is, we have someone here that likes them. So while it is ok to say you do not like them, it is not ok to insult people for being a fan or insult their reasons for enjoying that band.

I follow some bands since I like some musicians and maybe some of those bands are trendy and those bands don't last long normally in my cd collection i have. The only bands on earth that matter are the ones I (you.....whoever) like. Every other band and every other critical fan can take a flying fuck. I really dug Sabbath with Ozzy, although that's where it ends. Metallica, as most know, have sucked for longer than I care to remember......


But yeah, opinions are that: opinions. Some are more understandable than others, and some make more sense than others. Some people think Nile suck because (like....omg....I can't like....totally understand what they're like....saying and stuff) they can't understand the words. Some folks think Iced Earth and Dream theater lick balls because they sing in an operatically over-dosed style.

I think everyone should just grab a beer and listen to what turns them on.

in response to all of your posts, THANK SHIT i am not the only one who feels this way. i listen to some mainstream stuff also (not as far as metal goes, but stuff like pink floyd, the eagles, and even 30 seconds to mars's first album...yes i said it). it's not a problem of mainstreamness. i just said that because i was pissed and the bullshit was coming from a strict "mainstreamer" who doesn't give anything else a chance. i don't particulary like metallica but, come on, why bash me for that? i don't bash people because they don't like bodom. but if they haven't listened to bodom yet and bash it, that's when i get mad (seeing as how they weren't even given a chance). people like that piss me off til no end. and seriously, if you blame me for liking melodic shit, eat a cock. it's what keeps me sane. and i'm going to tell the next person that fucks with me to back the fuck down and stop being ignorant.
i work at FYE where most of the buyers buy shit like kelly clarkson and fallout boy. when customers aren't in the store, i scream "this shit fucking sucks and i'm about to put a bullet in my head if we don't change the song". but i don't diss on people who like their music. it's their lifestyle. it's what they relate to. so i help them find their cd and i don't judge them for what they listen to.

I hate people who think the things MTV or VH1 say are good are the only things worth liking. I get shit all the time because I really don't care for AC/DC or Greenday or other bands like that.
