Awesome! :monkeybang

Just out of curiosity, any way to retain some of that traffic? Have the spikes from last year's Ozzfest helped contribute to a higher annual count? Is any of that traffic still here a year later? Just curious as to the long haul effect of this event.... :shrug

Sad to say, a spike is all we have been able to get. I have tried many things to keep as much of that traffic as possible, but nothing so far has worked.

This year we had tons of new interviews on the left, automated link trades on the right, and then on the Saturday after the event I went on a nationaly syndicated radio talk show and plugged the site.

We are now at the same point we were before the event.

However, it can never hurt to bring a flood of traffic like this. As long as you are not "tricking" people to click, it does help. I am sure that some of those people will return. Without spending several thousand on advertising (which we plan to do in about six months), this is the best we can do.

Even when we get on Blabbermouth, there is only a spike. Every method of gaining traffic only creates a "spike". The goal is to get as many spikes as we can. The reason is that if you get enough spikes close enough together, it turns into a trend. If you don't try for the spikes, your traffic goes down.

I will continue to try for spikes as often as I can. At the same time I am always trying to think of ways to keep people coming back.

The best traffic stabilizers:
Band Link Trade
Official forums of band's with a good following
Interviews
Live photos
Reviews

This is in order of impact power as well. If anyone else has any ideas please post them.

Did 2006 generate more spikes than 2005? How does Jan. - July 2007 compare with Jan. - July 2006?

I'm not trying to scrutinize here...I'm trying to learn something. :D

It is hard to compare as last year was the first year we did this to the same level. Last year we recorded ten thousand unique visits, but I highly question that number. Between the server crashing and other sites being on that same set of stats, that info is not totally dependable.

With this new server, we now have much more stable and dependable data. Our stas are also only for this site. Each site I host has it's own data. So that really helps. With that we got just under 5 thousand unique visits this year. That could be half of what we got last year or it might not be. There is no way to tell for sure. However, next year we will be able to compare with this year with better assurance of the data we are using.

I am trying to learn as well, so having more then one brain working to scrutinize things is a good thing. So scrutinize away...PLEASE! :cool
