Is anybody else getting really sick of those anti smoking commecials? I got the point already. They got the point across when I was in elementary school. Enough is enough already. If seeing a guy with a hole in his neck is'nt enough to get the message across, than nothing is. And now they have those guys making those stupid ass comparisons,"You won't find lite bullets, just like you wont find lite cigarettes." Next thing you know they will be doing the PETA thing and start dumping buckets of tar on people who smoke. The thing I find funny is you never see those adds on kids channels where they might do some good, you see them on channels where people who watch have already made their decision on smoking.:pist

I don't smoke and those things piss me off. It seems like they are made to make smoking look cool. It comes across with the same tack as the "Just Say No" campaign in the 80's. Are these things produced by Rod & Todd Flanders or something?
D.A.R.E. got me interested in doing drugs. these ad campaigns are GREAT for the tobacco companies. there is no such thing as bad publicity.

If I were a bettin' man, I'd bet that the companies actually MAKE these videos. I do believe there was a settlement a while back with Phillip Morris in which one of the terms and conditions was for them to run anti-underage smoking ads for X amount of time.

yeah it's not those commercials that will get me to stop smoking. It's the whole not being able to breathe thing. But even that hasn't stopped me yet... :rotfl

Hahahahaham I was thinking that very thing last night. I don't smoke a lot....maybe once every two weeks or so, but I used to smoke much more frequently. Meh.....I don't get the massive fascination.

Yeah, and actually I only smoke a couple/few cigarettes a day. I don't take smoke breaks at work. I don't smoke in the car (often). I can even go without one for a few days sometimes. And I don't smoke when I'm sick.
I think part of my current problem with breathing is due to the fact that I stopped working out and stopped doing yoga. When I was working out and stretching I didn't have any breathing problems whatsoever. Not to mention the fact that my back and neck felt much better.
So what I think I need to do is start jogging and yoga again to get my lung capacity and stamina back to normal, and I can either take it or leave it when it comes to smoking.
(That's not to say I'm ready to "quit" permanently. I'm going to have a damn cigarette when I want one)

Working out is one of the absolute BEST things you can do. I've been back in the gym for almost a month now and my moods, my attitude, the way I feel, my strength, appetite, sex drive, and sense of overall tolerence and CALM have increased TENFOLD. It's amazing how much even just an hour and a half will make in the gym. Hell, I can squeeze an intense workout into an hour and still feel like gold. On top of that, I'm slowly but steadily losing weight again.
I can't stress this enough to you or anyone else on this planet: get back to the gym, it will make so many things better (as you had found out previously). The very worst thing anyone can do (and I've done it a ton of times) is stop going. Even if you only hit the gym for 30 to 45 minutes, that's still better than nothing. Oh, and utilize weights as much as possible.....they burn 3 times the calories that cardio exercise will, not that cardio's not good....it's great.
And yoga rules....I'd take it with my wife if I didn't feel like some giant oaf in there with all those chicks.

I smoke about a pack a day and enjoy a good cigars every couple months or so after a good meal.Anti-cigarette commercials don't really bother me though.I kind of like the body bag one. What bothers me is there is no smoking in any restaurant in our town now.I don't go out to eat much anyways unless Anna wants to so no big deal really.

nj banned smoking in resturaunts. :(
being a smoker, this sucks. it doesn't bother me much though. what REALLY bothers me is that they banned smoking in bars here.
it makes me want to kill. being a drunk and a smoker, it's nice to have both seeing as how they go hand in hand.

In Texas, we can still smoke at shows and in bars. What good is a bar if you can't smoke? Oh wait....they have beer....nevermind. Most restaraunts disallowed it a while back, but a lot of them now have those built in smoke rooms, with a closeable glass door and air filters on all sides of the thing. Kinda looks like a "smoking cage", if you will.

Now if they would only ban cell phones in check out lanes.
Man does that bug me....people chatting on their cell instead of taking care of business, hence holding up the line. Like I have all the time in the world to wait for them to finish talking about their new nail style or when tee time is. Give me a break.

In Santa Monica here in Cali they passed a law where you pretty much can't smoke anywhere except in your car or in your, your friends, or your relatives houses.

Sweet jesus that bullshit drives me nuts.......GET OFF YOUR PHONES, YA RUDE WHORES!!!!!!!
Or at least that's what I feel like saying at work everytime some self centered blow hole walks in and WON'T get off their phone and then gets mad when you get what they ask for, but they asked for the wrong thing....I hate cell phones with such a passion.
We should actually ban those next.

Never had a problem in a check out lane, but I really hate it when you get stuck at the drive thru because somebody is on a phone.

Even as a part time smoker myself, I much prefer smoking outside. I mean, yeah a drink AND a cigarette go really nice together, and for that I wish there were outdoor smoking areas at bars where you could ALSO bring your drink outside with you. But I used to get grossed out by how I would smell after shows sometimes, so I have no problem going outside to smoke at all. And it's just not fair to nonsmokers that they had to sit and/or work in that nasty shit every night. Lame.
As for cell phones, I believe similarly. I do not talk on my cell phone in places where I have to be engaging other people. It is wrong, and it pisses me off. The farthest I will go is to answer the call, say "I'm in line I'll call you right back" and then go back to business with what I'm doing, IF it's an important call. Otherwise I just call the person back when I'm back outside. If you're so important that you NEED to be on your phone, then you NEED to be the eff out of the line so that other people can get on with their day. There is a burger place here in Seattle that has "NO CELL PHONES" posted all over their restaurant. I think that's great. Go outside if you need to have a conversation - same as going outside if you need a cigarette.
It's just a total lack of common courtesy and common sense that I find prevalent in most places and situations anyway.
(And don't even get me started on amusement parks where I've spent the last two days. You would think people hadn't been walking since they were a year old. I mean really, how hard is it to just go? Or if you need to stop, move your ass to the side and out of the way before just suddenly stopping for no reason when someone is right behind you)

Now see if all smokers took this attitude, I don't think these smoking bans would have passed. Like most things in life it is a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone. I know there are many considerate smokers like yourselves, but the few bad apples makes people like me want to just ban it everywhere so I can enjoy myself. This is half selfish and half revenge of course, but it looks like the majority have been led to feel the same way.

Totally cool with that. I went to an outside show last night. The smokers were all over the place, but it never once got on my nerves. There was even a light breeze to keep the air clean. :cool

I will point out one thing that pisses me off about smokers, even if they are outside. I want to know why people get pissed off if someone drops a candy wrapper on the ground, but don't think a damn thing about stomping of flinging cigarette butts on the ground. Both are littering, and look completely nasty, but the butts seem to be acceptable.
I don't fling wrappers, or anything else for that matter, and often pick up litter left by others. Why is it that so many smokers are so disrespectful of the environment that they feel they can drop their trash anywhere they want. If you want to smoke in your car, then use the damn ashtray in it. The rest of you don't want you butts any more than apparently you do. And I think those assholes that think it is alright to dump their entire ashtray in a parking lot should have their tires slashed. Frankly, I don't want to have to see a pile of cigarette residue any more than a pile of dog shit, which the owners of are legally obligated to pick up.
If you don't do this, then please don't take offense. If you do, please stop doing it. We have a bad enough pollution problem without all of that being dropped on our streets and sidewalks.
