Not sure if this is true, but I know some of the people mentiond and will be asking them about it soon. Either way it is a very interesting letter and I can tell you that this shit happens all the time in the music industry!

Here is an intro to the big ass letter as well...

Yeah, it is extremely long. But it does give a ton of information on how frighteningly corrupt the music industry is. So many think the indie labels are better then the majors and that just isn't true. Both scam the shit out of bands and fans.

I have a friend who is in an unsigned band and he has told me about some of the Death Sentence contracts he has been offered, its a total joke. Why should he sign a contract to make less than he makes now without any help from some leach record label. I think they blow most of the current signed bands out of the water. you tell me what you think. http://www.vore.org

I am a horrid judge of death metal to be honest. I have found that the death metal I like is not accepted as real death metal by hardcore death metal fans. I am more of an old school metal guy. If it sounds like it came from around 85-95 I probably will like it. Otherwise I will think it sucks. :rotfl

However, what I think means jack and shit. If the band believes in themselves they should go for it. The only thing they need is distro. They can get that from www.cdbaby.com. Then they need to get the word out to people from outside their local area.

Here is the way I would do it without using any record company, press agents, marketing company, or any other old school music industry fossils.

First off their website is terrible. That pop up crap pisses people off. Keep it simple. I had a hard time just finding a link to their MySpace to hear the damn music. Most people will give the band a couple seconds to give them the goods and then move on. So keep it simple and DO NOT use frames. That is so 90's. It's all about sever side includes and style sheets. I can link to info on what that is if you want.

Now once the band has a more simple and easy to navigate website, have them create voice over promo versions of every song on their latest cd. This means that about halfway through every song the level on the song drops out and a voice comes over top of the song. During the voice over the music should almost not be able to be heard so that the voiceover can be heard clearly. The voiceover should say something like "You are now listening to the band Vore. To buy a uninterrupted retail version of this song go to vore.org and buy the cd Lord Of Storms. Thank you for listening." Do this on every song. Then make a hidden (no link from main site) webpage that has nothing except links to download the promo version of the cd. These should be full songs other then the voiceover. Then place a link to purchase the cd using PayPal, Cd Baby, and Amazon (if cd baby doesn't hook you up with that go to www.amazon.com/advantage to get the band on Amazon). People are nervous about buying stuff online, so you want to give them as many options as you can so they can pick what is comfortable to them. Do not clutter the website with anything else. You must keep it simple because people have very short attention spans.

Now to get the word out on the band, buy a banner ad from a large ad network. www.Fixionmedia.com is the biggest. www.UltimateMetal.com is much smaller, but also much cheaper. Both of those should do the band good. I would plan to spend no less then 3 grand for a month long campaign. The banner ad should only promote the idea of "Free MP3 death metal download". All you are looking for is to get people to check the band out. If they like it they will buy it.

International promotion and distribution with no label! The band keeps every penny they make. :monkey
