SHUT UP AND DIE

Are there ever moments where you feel you are too drunk or high to function? I drink a lot.............like an "Intervention" amount...............but I am still predominately functional. Sometimes I feel as though I am truly fighting an addiction.............sometimes I feel as though it's just a casual, normal thing.
Anyways, I'll ask you folks, as you are seemingly cool individuals....and can reciprocate advice, as I have with the diet questions.

If you drink that much all the time you'll eventually have a tolerance break and it will take you less and less to become intoxicated.I went through that stage about 6 years before I quit drinking.Where I used to drink about a case and be completely wasted turned into about half a 40 ouncer and I'd pass out or blackout.

I have found that this is different for everyone. I know that I used to drink a lot because it was the only way I could deal with family. Now that I don't speak to family, I find that I almost never drink at all.
Some are "hereditary" alcoholics and get it from their family bloodlines. Then it is a fight you have to take on "One day at a time". I was not this type of alcoholic so I don't have much advice for it.
So it depends on if you are a situational alcoholic or a hereditary alcoholic. Are there specific situations that drive you to drink?
I used to go through almost a six pack a day. Now a six pack can last several months in the fridge. I got rid of the situations that made me want to drink. :shrug
That was my experience, but everyones experience will be different.

Hehe, the only time I'm too high to function is when I take too much vicodin. Like on Tuesday at work for example...
But on a serious note, if YOU think you drink enough to need an intervention, then maybe you need an intervention. I agree with Mark that if it's hereditary can make a difference, and your social habits can make a difference. but it also depends on the individual.
I have plenty of chances to drink and plenty of alcoholic friends to drink with, but I rarely find myself drunk. Last time I was drunk actually was in February, and I was definitely not able to function. Both of my parents are addicts/alcoholics, as well as other members of my family - though I may be "prone to addiction" I don't find myself not being able to get through a day without a substance. If there's alcohol around I can ignore it... if there isn't alcohol around I don't have to rush out and buy it.
But maybe all I'm saying is a bunch of crap, because mostly I just don't really LIKE being drunk. I like to get a nice mellow buzz, maintain it for a couple hours, then drink a shitload of water so I can drive home and/or sleep well. :shrug

Thanks for your advice , guys. I dunno....like I said, sometimes it seems unmanagable and scary (sometimes it can be a BEAST, trust me), but normally it's just like I can drink 3-5 40 ounce beers or 2 cases of 12 ounce beers in a day and be ok, minus the hangover part. It's wierd, I seem to function ok, and even my wife has gotten to the point where she can't tell I've been drinking. I can converse with people, I don't (normally....sometimes I do though) have mood swings or moments of eradic and unpredictable behavior. I can get violent, but that's usually when someone crosses me....and that normally happens in general without booze. I never hit my woman (which I grew up seeing from alcoholics) or my kid (which I received growing up from alcoholics) although I tend to yell when "lines" have been crossed. Family-wise, my grandfather drank, 2 of my uncles died of alcoholism......
I dunno...my wife used to think I needed treatment, but she never says anything about it now, and we even have normal interaction now if I have a beer.
ODDLY: I can WRITE when I drink......I usually write my rough drafts of reviews when drinking, and then edit them when I'm sober the next morning, lol. I have begun to feel my liver hurting (literally) though......

i'm pretty much the same way. none of my friends can tell i'm drunk most of the time...unless i have over 30 beers in a short amount of time. your body gets used to drinking that much and you don't get drunk as easily. and even if you feel drunk, you don't slur or fall down like you did when you first started drinking. like when i first started playing guitar hero, i was a raging alcoholic...and on my off time i just used to drink and play that game for about 2 years straight. now, if i'm not drunk or stoned, i can't play beat guitar hero on expert. the only way i can do so is if i have a few beers in me. it's funny how you get used to doing things drunk, and when you're not they seem impossible. a lot of my musician friends are this way (aka children of bodom & the people in my band)...not being able to play unless they have that drive behind them. it's funny how that works, but a lot of the great artists/musicians/poets had no inspiration without the bottle and/or other drugs.
as for your liver hurting, go get a blood test as soon as possible to get your enzymes checked. if it's not out of control, there's nothing to worry about. if it is, unfortunately it's time to cut back. not because you're an alocholic, but because you need your liver.
