As explained before, Slamtv was formerly an acronym for Seattle Local Access Metal TV, chosen hastily back in early 2003. It was quick, it was fairly catchy, it was easy to remember.

And popular, as I found out in 2004 when I was approached to sell the dotcom domain to British Mobile Entertainment providers SLAMTV. Since the domain only represented a forum on this site that had gotten less than a hundred views since posting it. Done-- who doesn't like a windfall of quick Ca$h?

These days? Well, I tried to register with the name when I started the youtube channel and was denied. Denied? WTF? I thought, and did a search for Slamtv-- sure enough, there is a Slamtv channel designer, and his chosen content is Professional Wrestling.
How awesome is that? What a perfect use of the name!
There has never been any conflict as to entitlement for use of the name, between myself or any of the other people who use it. There never will be, at least not perpetuated by me. To me, it represents the beginning of an idea, and that idea has evolved over time. In that spirit, I will be completely dropping all reference to the acronym by 2008, in favor of VIDEOCRISY, which is currently the name of the youtube channel, and will act as the company name for all content produced for broadcasting on cable and on the web. There is a story behind Videocrisy, as well, and it involves Slipknot-- but another time...

Hey, sorry to hijack the thread, but I have an off-topic question. I am a videographer/editor living in South Fl. that is planning on moving up to the Seattle area in the next couple of months. I need to find a job in TV or film, and have applied at a few places, but was wondering if you were in need of any camera/editing services for your channel.

Thanks.

He doesn't have a channel. He has a show on a public access channel. Your best bet in Seattle is to go freelance. There are tons of band's and company's that need that kind of work done. If you are good you should have no problem at all. Good luck.

PS-Sorry Steve for jumping in. I hope you don't mind me giving the answer. :cheers

I should pay attention to my own forum better, I suppose. There's tons of freelance work up this way, much to be found on Craigslist, in fact. Like anything else, you can't be choosy about your gigs if you want to get paid in the videography field. You also need to have your own gear, because few people are going to trust a freelancer with expensive equipment without a verifiable resume.
There's shitloads of money in events, advertising and training/educational video but not much at all if you're looking to get paid doing music video-- bands are for the most part broke and without label support.

I guess I should remember where I've been posting. I've sent a few resumes out for steady work in the Seattle area. I've gotten some interest from Scan, and that I believe is my best bet. Well I'll see how it turns out, I won't be heading up that way for a few more months.

Wow, SCAN has a budget for employees? Cool.
Gotta start somewhere, man. Even humble beginnings are something to be proud of.
