I think Colbert's campaign is hilarious, not so much Colbert himself but the responses he's getting from the other campaigners.

"Edwards spokesperson Teresa Wells also ribbed Colbert for his ties to the snack food industry. Colbert has said his campaign will be sponsored by Doritos.

"What is more troubling than his quest for a status his own mother won't grant him (favorite son) are his ties to the salty food industry," Wells said. "As the candidate of Doritos, his hands are stained by corporate corruption and nacho cheese. John Edwards has never taken a dime from taco chip lobbyists and America deserves a President who isn't in the pocket of the snack food special interests.""

I also find it mildly humorous to look at some of the things people without a sense of humor have to say about this.

"IT IS VERY SAD THAT A PERSON CAN LAUGH AND JOKE AT A TIME WHEN THIS COUNTRY IS IN SO MUCH TROUBLE..."

-Yes. It is a sad day when people can be jubilant! What has this world come to? You're right good sir. The country is in SOOO much trouble. Ignore the fact that the country has been in so much trouble for, I dunno... 230 years or so.

"...WE NEED SERIOUS PEOPLE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT TO TURN US AROUND FROM ALL THE TROUBLE AND HATE AGAINST AMERICA THAT THE BUSH BUNCH HAS CAUSED..."

-Once again. America hatred is nothing new. It's France's national passtime!

"...WHAT DO WE GET. ..."

-Poorly punctuated questions?

"...ANOTHER NUT CASE. WAKE UP AMERICANS IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOU LIVELY HOOD AND THE VERY LIVES OF YOUR CHILDREN..."

-Stephen Colbert causes impotency and kills children, appearently.

"...A NUT LIKE THIS GUY, AND THE REPUBLICANS WILL KEEP US AT WAR FOREVER IF IT MAKES THEM A DOLLAR."

-Stephen Colbert is a democrat...

Next Comment!

"I have to agree with Hawk, TX. This is NOT funny at all. We are a Country that is CURRENTLY at WAR with no clear way of getting out..."

-A.) Country is not a proper noun. B.) America is not and has not been at war for many years now. I believe the last war was the cold war? Little known fact: America is not and has not been at war with Iraq. War has to be declared in order for a war to exist, and declaring war is an act of congress, which never happened.

"...We need to choose a new leader for 2008. Nothing is funny about that..."

-Except Stephen Colbert.

"...He should get back on his show and interviewing the serious candidates on their stance on Major issues. So the voter can determine whom they will vote for..."

-Because that's totally what The Colbert Report does...

"...Like "The Daily Show” has done..."

-SENTENCE FRAGMENT!

"...And I hate to say this but, instead of doing this and making himself look like just one more IDIOT!. ..."

-SENTENCE FRAGMENT (and also... Periods do not belong after exclamation points.)

"...Who ever in your circle that is telling you this is Funny, is WRONG!"

-And if you think I have a circle, you're WRONG!... And whoever in your circle who is telling you this is not funny is wrong and probably has terrible grammar.

I like how people who aren't smart enough to create proper sentence structure think they have the right to lecture the world about how politics should work.

That's all I got...

a-p-p-a-r-e-n-t-l-y, apparently.

Colbert's joke is that he is both a Dem and a Repub.

Proper spanish spelling for president? P-r-e-s-i-d-e-n-t-e

Colbert's joke is that he is both a Dem and a Repub.

I would say it is more of a parody of a Republican than being both. The inspiration being that of Bill O'Reilly's show The O'Reilly Factor. Hence the reason Bill O'Reilly is known as "Papa Bear" on The Colbert Report.

In being a parody, it is of course pointed at the worst the Republican party has to offer, but that is what makes it funny. Good comedy is always about the extremes.

I love both The Daily Show & Colbert Report myself. To me that is an example of perfect comedy.

Oh, of course, obviously...what I meant was his running-for-president joke is that he is running both as an Elephant and an Ass. :)

In being a parody, it is of course pointed at the worst the Republican party has to offer I didn't know the republican party had anything good to offer.... :cheers

Agreed, my wife and I watch both shows frequently.

I know the two of you mean no harm by it and I am not calling anyone racist at all. However, others may misunderstand what you are saying. So please don't post racial humor, no matter how innocent. Others may not know that you are both huge fans of many Hispanic entertainers.

Please understand, I don't want to debate anything or make someone feel bad about having a sense of humor. I just would hate to have anyone think that this is a place where negative stereotypes are welcome.

It's more the "Pandora's box" effect I am worried about. Hope you both understand. :cheers

Hey Mark: Se mas espanol que usted hace, y no soy como anal retentivo.

:) Anyone who knows spanish will understand. Hispanic culture and hispanic people rule, for the most part, and I surely didn't mean any offense by my "lawncare provider" comment. I dunno....I come from a HEAVILY spanish city (not to mention almost ALL of my friend/co-workers/etc are hispanic), so maybe we just don't see the big deal....all apologies.

Yeah, that is why posting on a board is such a strange beast. The same joke that can be said in person without anyone thinking anything of it has the chance of being offensive on a website or forum. Not because people are overly sensitive, but because on a forum you can hear the tone, see the facial expressions, or know if the person is being sarcastic.

The things you two said could have been jokes on how stupid racism is, but if read wrong the entire definition changes. For these reasons the internet can suck.

Thanks for understanding. :cheers
