Out of those, Immortal wrote the best songs so they've got my vote.

Toss up between Enslaved and Bathory for me, but I took Enslaved because of their last couple of releases, and just to be different. Kinda wish that Emperor was on the list, though.

I posted a list similar to this at Abrasive Rock once and Immortal won by a long shot. The only Immortal I've heard was "Sons Of Northern Darkness" and wasn't impressed. Most people say their earlier stuff is better.

"Sons of Northern Darkness" is good, but not their best. Check out "At the Heart of Winter" for some of their more melodic, sprawling stuff, or "Pure Holocaust" for the more primal stuff.

That would be a gigantic negative. "Sons", "Damned In Black", and "Heart" are their three best efforts. Unless you're looking for noisier, more tinny-sounding stuff, in which case "Battles In The North" "Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism" or "Pure Holocaust" will be more to your liking. Immortal generally tends to avoid that crappy "clean" vocal that many black metal bands try to incorporate into their material.

I haven't heard any of these bands, but this statement made me giggle.

I like the black metal style that makes your speakers sound as if they're coated with sheets of ice. I hear "Pure Holocaust" is their best release.

If you already have an ear for that kind of thing, PH is great, dude. "Battles In The North" will probably make you just as happy as well.
