Yeah, yeah, Michael Moore is "controversial"

I'm not trying to talk about him here.

I watched this again the other night, after having only seen it in the theater, so it's been quite a while.

The footage of the bombs going off on the first day of the attacks in Iraq made my stomach churn. Footage of Iraqis carrying their blood soaked and sometimes dead children through the streets...

Every time I watch one of these movies I get so upset, but I'm glad to know what was really going on.

Has everyone seen it?

Michael Moore is like Fox news for liberals. You have to take him with a huge grain of salt and know that he puts a ton of spin on things to push his opinion. There is a ton of truth in that movie, but you can never accept anything in one of his movies as fact.

I agree that his docs usually put a more extreme spin on the actual reality .. but it's better than pretending that everything is all peachy keen in the world.

Moore is one of those guys where I have a hot and cold reaction too. F 911 was a cool movie, actually, but he does get a litte....dramatic about enything he wants to get across. Not to mention he's got that passive-aggressive personality in people that I fucking hate.

Funny side note....a friend of mine from Virginia was featured in his "Bowling For Columbine" bullshit documentary.

That's pretty much how I feel about him too. When he is good he is great, but when he get's overly dramatic you have to start questioning everything that comes out of his mouth.

And just as I figured, it would turn into an "I hate MM because" or "I like MM because" thread.

I'm talking about raw footage of THE UNITED STATES bombing a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 and how friggin sick to my stomach it made me. Footage of parents carrying their bloody children down the street, innocent civilians woken in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve told to "calm down" in English with no translator. Michael Moore didn't say a thing during those moments. They were just moments of film he put in his movie. Moments of film that show that WE are truly the terrorists, and moments of film that utterly disgust me.

I don't think anyone has said they hate Michael Moore. All I think anyone has said is that you have to take everything in his movies with a very large grain of salt.

Sometimes just placement of footage can be done in a way that sends the wrong message. For example, footage of some country being bombed placed in a movie without any narriation is something I woulod take with a grain of salt. Why was there no narration? Was it because the placement of the footage is a way to say something that can't be quoted. This is a trick Michael Moore uses very often.

So the reason why we question even this horrid footage you mentioned is because most who watch the film are left wondering if the footage is what we were lead to believe it was. We are left to wonder if the time table/arrangement of the footage was done to "spin" the message to what he wanted us to believe and "said" something that was untrue.

So was the footage a horrid statement on society? Yes. Did it show things that this country should not be involved in? Yes! It's just that the film maker has a history that makes us wonder if the message being sent by that footage should be taken at face value.

FTR-I love Michael Moore movies and consider myself a fan. I just take it as strictly entertainment and should not be taken seriously anymore then Fox news.

Yes, I know he spins things just as others spin things.

That footage however was 100% real.

And it pissssssed me off seeing it again. Knowing know what has transpired since that first day of bombing... Uck...

Ok, you have a point. Sorry 'bout that....and it's very disturbing, indeed. However, Iraq has had their own civil (religious) wars forever and done EXTREMELY heinous things (including the murder of innocent women, elderlies, and children) to their own people......I think merely because the U.S. was involved in is this time, Mr. Opportunist decided to talk about it. I wonder, would he show what the Iraqi's do to each other with such passion? Maybe that's what disturbs me about F911.....it very much plays on people's natural reaction that violence of this magnitude is horrible, which it is, but it's a slant from MM that makes it irritating.

Yep. That and the fact that he messes with timelines of footage all the time. So footage placed in a way where it looks like it is post 911 may be pre-911.

I know they have been fighting each other and living in a war zone since forever as well.

I have no doubt in my mind, however, that the footage that was shown was from us attacking them, and immediately following said attacks.

I know what you guys are saying, but you're still avoiding my point. Say you accept that the footage is from the correct time, in the correct context... does it not completely disgust you? That's all I'm asking.

Of course, mam. I don't think anyone sees dead/injured children and goes "wow that's cool". If they do, they need their head checked. It doesn't so much get me politically angry as it just makes me lose hope in the human race in general.

Yeah, totally. When I think about the overall scheme of things right now... it's like I know there ARE some good people out there. People who care about other humans in general, and also about the earth as our home, not just some surface we live on, but for the most part I'm seeing an every man for himself mentality, and our resources are running out, and it's really time for us to come together, not be nuking each other. Sad sad sad.

It's my personal opinion that humans, like all other species, will eventually end themselves. I only think that because I'm a raging optimist. :)
