Did anyone else think this movie was as lame as I did?

If I had seen it when I was 15, I probably would have been all like "cool. Ooooh, sex scenes. Oooh, drugs. Ooooh bad asses beating people down and stealing and stuff. Huh huh... coooooool"

But seeing it as a 27 year old I was just thinking how obvious the propaganda was on both sides of the equation.

Teens probably think the movie is shocking and cool, but it's also trying to scare them - "If you have sex with a guy you barely know, he's probably carrying the AIDS virus. Especially if he doesn't call you afterwards" (which is friggin retarded in the first place, if you're going to let someone screw you without protection, and you barely know them, and it's your first time, then I'm sorry but you kinda deserve what you get - I know most of my friends lost their virginity to someone who was at least their boyfriend or girlfriend, and usually also a virgin)

Parents are being shown "what your kids are really doing when you're not watching them" but even as a "bad-ass" teen, sure we smoked weed and cigarettes, and drank, and maybe shoplifted from time to time, but was also respected our parents, used protection, and weren't friggin idiot new yorker latch key brats...

So yeah, I was not impressed overall with this film. It was just... weird to me. And unrealistic.

I didn't like it when I saw it when I was 16. All of my friends thought it was cool. *shrug*

Damn, I actually have this movie on VHS, been years since I've watched it....I first saw it when I was 18. I liked the movie from the viewpoint of it's fairly close to inner city kids lives. Hell, we have kids in my own apartment complex that live like that. I didn't so much think that it was "cool" at all....kids who thought that were missing the point of the movie.

So basically, unless you're from the ghetto, you're not going to be able to relate, lol.

On a funny note, ever notice that the two females in the movie (Rasario Dawson and uh...the white chick with aids) had great careers later on. The guys.....Casper committed suicide about 5 years ago and the other dorky taller guy played a junkie on "The Wire" for a bit.

I saw a couple episodes of The Wire. Didn't recognize that connection.

Yeah, Chloe Sevigny or something like that, and Rosario Dawson. I like Rosario Dawson a lot.

There were actually things I could relate to - like I said, we did most of that stuff too - just not in such a "ghetto" way.

Oh hell yeah. I've liked her a lot.....in my head....many times over. :)

The guy that played Casper was in Friday part 2 I think......last movie he was in before he died.
