Alright, I think I have done this before, but this debate is kind of coming up with the Slayer vs. Megadeth thing in the other thread. We also have some new people here so it is interesting. Who do you think is the best out of the Big Four of Thrash?? In the debate of Slayer vs. Megadeth I go hands down with Megadeth. Out of the Big 4 though I have a hard time chosing. I have to go with Metallica though. Their first 4 albums are just too fucking good.

Slayer of course.....BUT....everytime I listen to those old Metallica cd's (which is about once a year) I get one of those rare, rare, rare moments where I actually miss the 80's.
Megadeth easily since Dave Mustaine just may be thrash's best rhythm guitarist and songwriter, he can more than hold his own in terms of lead playing, he has recruited at least two of metal's greatest lead players into the band (Chris Poland and Marty Friedman) and the band released three of metal's all-time greatest albums in the 80's.

For me it is a close call between Anthrax and Megadeth. Both band's have about the same amount of disappointments. For both band's it is a very low number. Megadeth wins though because they have an amazing line up right now and are very active. Anthrax can't pick which singer to fuck over next.
The first four releases from Metallica are amazing classics, but the four after that were more and more disappointing with each release.
Slayer also has some great releases, but now they seem so focused on trying to keep up a rep of being the most extreme then just writing the best songs they can. They forgot they are a thrash band and so they just can't put out more then one or two great songs per cd. They lasted five cd's before things started going downhill.

Out of this list I voted Slayer but there are many other thrash bands I like better than those listed. My favorite thrash band being Voivod.

If its just between their early albums its between Metellica and Megadeth for me but Id say Megadeth because they are still carrying the torch today.

All of them are great bands. But Slayer gets my vote.

Ride The Lightning is still better than anything any of them did before or since, so despite what they've become, Metallica gets my vote.

And I don't care what anyone says. I hate Slayer.

Anthrax is getting smoked. I thought more people liked them here. I do agree that their stuff doesn't stand out as much as the other threes do.

Actually it does, and I would have voted for them if I didn't like Megadeth so much.

They came in second for me. If they could figure out what singer to screw over next I might have picked them. :metal

How do I rank these four bands?
#1. Slayer gets my vote..
Slayer have been the most consistent over the years..
I own and enjoy ALL of their CD's... and you know they will always deliver a great live show.
#2. Metallica
I also own all of Metallica's CD's...so that gives them the edge over Megadeth.
There is no denying their greatness... I hope the new one will be good?
#3. Megadeth
I love Dave Mustaine, but he did put out some crap and lost me in the nineties..
But.."The System Has Failed" was a great comeback CD and got me listening again.
#4. Anthrax
I've lost all interest in them
"Fistfull Of Metal" and "Spreading The Disease", are still my favorites by them..
I would rather hear John Bush singing in Armored Saint

Megadeth got my vote, for sure. I love Metallica's older stuff, but I like Megadeth's message a lot more, I like their style a lot more, they had Chris Poland, and moreover, they had Marty Friedman, perhaps my favourite guitarist... hell, Megadeth was the first metal band I ever got into, and the first band I ever labeled as my favourite, on top of that, so they get my vote, hands down.

I gotta give it up to Anthrax. They really helped get me into metal and everything up to and including "Live-The Island Years" still gets regular plays on my mp3 player
