Is it just me, or does this album totally kick ass?

Ehhhh....I have no clue....haven't heard it yet. I only have one Arch Enemy cd....I think it's the maxi-single for "Dead Eyes See No Future".....it's not bad, they do a Megadeth cover on there.

Damn you're missing out if you all you've heard by Arch Enemy is the "Dead Eyes See No Future" single since Michael and Chris Amott are without a doubt two of metal's best guitarists these. In fact, since you're a big fan of Heartwork era Carcass, you're already familiar with the greatness of Michael Amott, so I'm a bit surprised that you haven't checked out Arch Enemy. I hope you will now though.

I heard a bunch of hype about this album, how it's more of a return to the intensity of "Wages of Sin" era, but I heard "Revolution Begins" recently and while a decent, catchy tune it was a little too much of the same. I'll be curious to hear how the rest of the album sounds.

I had a copy of it (not from Mark), and I wasn't impressed. Maybe I should have given it more than a couple spins, but the songs started sounding the same to me. So I gave it to my guitarist.

I've seen many reviews of Rise of the Tyrant in which the reviewers say "most or all of the songs sound the same," but I'm really beginning to wonder what album they actually listened to.

the album itself is effing amazing. the songs are all very well written. and as an arch enemy fan, i give it 4 stars out of 5. the only beef i have with it is that angela gossow uses entirely too much effects on her voice on this particular album. as a female vocalist, this bothers me a lot. it's ok to have voice effects in my opinion, but she is really overdoing it in this album. can't hear it? turn it up a little louder, or listen to it on noise cancelling headphones, and you'll see what i mean. but all in all, very good album.

It's definitely a kickass album, way stronger than the last couple.

I really don't get why so many people have issues with Anthems of Rebellion and Doomsday Machine.
Sure Anthems has the commercial-ish "We Will Rise" and Machine has the commercial-ish, and overly simplistic, "My Apocalypse" and "Carry the Cross," but the amount of completely badass songs each album has is pretty God damn high:
Anthems
"Silent Wars"
"Dead Eyes See No Future"
"Instinct"
"Leader of the Rats"
"Exist to Exit"
"End of the Line"
"Saints & Sinners"
Machine
"Enter the Machine"
"Taking Back My Soul"
"Nemesis"
"I Am Legend/Out For Blood"
"Skeleton Dance"
"Slaves of Yesterday"

I only heard a few songs from The Doomsday Machine but I wasn't impressed. Anthems had several good songs on it, but I think the songs on the new album are just plain better.

That's cool.
When I said "I don't get why some people discount the albums," I was talking about the delusional assclowns who think that they're "pussy shit," "mallcore" and all that nonsense. What albums were they actually listening to?:wtf

i have no idea. some people are just metal snobs that think anyone who has a music video or is feature in Hammer magazine is mallcore. those people piss me off. especially seeing as how bands such as Arch Enemy struggled hard to get where they are and didn't have anything but an underground fanbase for the longest time. (plus the Amott brothers are effing sick, there's no denying that). i mean, shit, if you don't like something, just say that. but don't call it mallcore if it's not.

You gotta admit, there were a couple riffs on Anthems that sounded more like Slipknot than Arch Enemy. But only a couple riffs. What I think it really is is that newer bands are doing horrible impressions of the style of Arch Enemy and other similar bands, so then Arch Enemy gets lumped in with them by default.

ugh. i've seen some horrible chick singer bands trying to be like angela gossow. except the music effing sucks and they effing lipsinc. they should all die.
minus the very few who are actually good. ie arch enemy.

wait...THIS is a perfect example of the shit i had to sit through waiting for Firewind & Sonata Arctica. this chick was screaming about how she couldn't sing without her ipod (aka lipsync). plus she was effing foul and shoving her hairy chotch in peoples' faces. i almost threw up but then Gus G came on after so i was saved.
i give you The Agonist (she doesn't really sing for the record, she just pretends to. it's someone else's voice):

You're exactly right, and even though I've understood, and more or less come to terms with this concept over the years, it's one of those things that still manages to piss me off whenever I see it.
As for the Amott's, Michael just may be my favorite guitarist after Dave Mustaine, and Chris is not far behind.

Yeah, one of the riffs during the chorus of "Instinct" comes to mind, but what most people don't mention about that chorus is its crazy shift in timing, which especially shows the drumming prowess of Daniel Erlandsson. Now that I think about it, he just may be my favorite drummer in all of metal at the moment.

My favorite part of the "We Will Rise" video is during the second prechorus when they show a closeup of him playing the kick pattern for that part. Gave me more respect for the guy, playing a cool pattern instead of something boring to give the song some added intensity.

Hmm..., I'll have to check that part out, and it makes sense that Erlandsson would know a trick like that since he was a session drummer prior to joining Arch Enemy.

Burning Bridges and Wages of Sin were solid, they're live ozzfest performance back in 07' was intense. Def. reppin' the euro metal scene hard.
