Iced Earth help

So my best friends birthday is coming up and he loves Iced Earth. He owns Horror Show and Burnt Offerings and loves them both. I have heard from multiple sources that The Dark Saga is their best album. He does not own this. Do you think I should get him this? I think he will like it, what do you guys think?

The Dark Saga is a good album, but it's definitely hit and miss. While songs such as "The Hunter" and "Slave to the Dark" are two of Iced Earth's very best songs, most of the rest is merely good.

With that, I know that I'm in the minority not only here, but among nearly all fans of Iced Earth, but if you want to get your friend an album by Iced Earth, get The Glorious Burden. It not only is much better than pretty much everyone says it is, it's a badass album plain and simple.

I'd recommend Something Wicked over the Dark Saga, or Alive In Athens is a great way to go.

Alive In Athens would be a great album to get him - be sure to get the 3 disc version. It really sets the standard for live metal albums. I gotta disagree with CFH on the Glorious Burden. It has a couple moments but it is just as hit and miss as the Dark Saga.

If you want to get him a studio album as opposed to the live album, I'd go with Something Wicked since he is already a fan of the Barlow era, although Night of the Stormrider (which is not Barlow) is probably my favorite.

Did I not say that I was quite possibly the only fan of Iced Earth who believes that Glorious Burden is one of their best albums? :P

I am with you CFH....I love The Glorious Burden. I don't really have any problems with either vocalist, but I am finding Jon's riffs a tab bit repetitious. Iced Earth is one of my fav bands and I really like the entire catalog, but I do like Horror Show the best followed by The Glorious Burden. Alive in Athens would be my recommendation because I agree that The Dark Saga is pretty hit or miss.

Horror Show is third for me, with Stormrider first and Something Wicked second.

I've always liked Something Wicked the best. To me, all their albums are hit-and-miss, usually half or more full of good songs, but Something Wicked has the best ratio IMO.
