I tried to get Sherri to go, but for some reason we haven't yet. I am going to really try again next weekend though.

I have heard the religious zealots are working hard to get the movie more press. :rotfl

Pretty cool movie. The religious idiots are just pissed that it shows how controlling organized religion is.

It ended abruptly so there will be a sequel.

I am Legend looks like it could be okay and Sweeney Todd looks fucking amazing.

Sweeny Todd is the first film with the Tim Burton & Johnny Depp duo that me and the wife have no interest in at all. It just looks like a typical slasher film and I have always expected so much more from movies with both of them.

For the record, its a musical.

From what I've gathered it's a musical. Still I'm not as excited to see it as I usually am with Burton flicks.

Yes, it is a slasher musical. One film type that bores me and one that annoys me. However, I really love everything that the two have done before so I might watch it someday. I'm sure it isn't as bad as the previews make it look, but there are so many movies coming out right now that it isn't likely I will catch this one before it leaves the theater.

Its an old musical... for another record :D (by Stephen Sondheim)

The story is even older then that, but this specific version is adapted from Stephen Sondheim. However, there is going to be major differences between the play and the movie. It is the Tim Burton re-telling that makes me even give it a chance.

Ok, back to the subject of GOLDEN COMPASS!

Me and Sherri just got back and that had to be one of the best fucking fantasy movies I have ever seen. Absolutely amazing.

DId anyone notice that a gay guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_McKellen) plays a bear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_community)? Am I the only one who found that to be an entertaining (and unintentional) coincidence? He of course had the perfect voice for that and only maybe Sean Connery could have pulled it off as well. I just find that connection to be kind o funny. :shrug

Lol yeah I noticed that as well. The evil bear was Ian Mcshane (Al Swearingen in Deadwood). I kept expecting him to call the other bear a "cocksucker"! :p

Sad to say there will probably never be a sequel. The fans of the book hated the movie because it wasn't true enough to the book and the religious zealots hated it because the book was anti religion. So nobody went to see the movie and it was considered a major flop. So sad that the agnostics didn't stop to think that they were doing exactly what the far right wanted them to do.

Anyways, if you like audio books at all there is a REALLY well done audio book. They had a separate actor for every voice so it sounds really good. Very true to the book.

The audiobooks are amazing. Blew my mind for sure. I read on His Dark Materials wiki page that they are working on doing the sequels and that they will be more true to the books... or something like that. the first movie was to suck fans in without too many religious themes of the book being prevailant, but the other two books it would be impossible not to have the religious theme.
