in the 80's end anytime soon? First it was Rocky Balboa, then Rambo and now the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has joined the party. Yay.

As a fan of the 80's I find the whole thing to be tantamount to sacrilege.

It's weird, because I just started going through some of the 80's movies - getting them on my netflix. Other classics too. I finally saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the first time all the way through and unedited. I'd seen parts on t.v. before. I've also never seen the Nightmare Series all the way through - same with just snippets, but even so, I don't see how they can remake those movies unless they still use Robert Englund.
There are a lot of bad remakes. But it's not like this is the first batch, and it's not like they're just from the 80's. There have been tons of remakes of movies from the 30's all the way up to now. Which is exactly the reason why I'm adding classic versions of films to my netflix. I want to see all the originals.

I'm not really "bothered" by it either. Sometimes remakes can be really good. I liked the Halloween remake. A lot. Lol. I'm sure there were way more 80's movies remade before Halloween too, I just don't feel like researching it right now.
They're remaking Hellraiser, I hope they do it justice!
I am looking forward to GI Joe!

I have to admit that with transformers they did it right, but that seems to be more of an anomaly more than anything.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High fucking rules!

Ok, this is getting a tad excessive. If the remakes rule, then I will feel ok about it, if they blow I will totally hate the world of Hollywood and demand that it be removed from the map. I STILL haven't seen the damned Halloween remake, but most of my friends/family who have seen it say that it's worth it. Remaking Batman pisses me off to no end, that's just retarded. Take that, Heath.

Seriously? That's as terrible an idea as remaking "Dawn Of the Dead" and is likely to suck as much. Is Doug Bradley gonna be Pinhead again?

I'm not sure as that was my first question as well.

Except for the fact that the remake of DOTD actually DIDN'T suck and in fact far surpassed the original.

I disagree. The atmosphere the original created, not to mention the element of satire, was completely replaced with manufactured Hollywood moments. As a movie by itself it's ok, but as a remake of a legendary movie it fails.

Now see that is what I think is missing from almost every one of the 80's rehash movies. It just comes off like more of a piss take than an homage to the original versions. It is almost always done without a total respect and understanding of what made the original versions so great. Horror movies or otherwise, they all lack the same vibe and/or atmosphere.

Ok, DOTD 80's version: cheap effects, slow-ass zombies....LAME ACTING, lame production, and a stupider than thou story line.
DOTD 00's: A stupider than thou story line, but MUCH better production, much better effects, much scarier zombies, much more intense scenes withut seeming hokey and phony as fuck, FAST zombies that can really scare the humans into "what the fuck will we do now" instead of "who owns the mall, OMG". Wow...how could someone NOT like the remake. Oh, and not one zombie is that nasty light green color that those morons from the 80's created. Yes, I just blasphemed against the zombie gods and I don't care. The remake DESTROYS the original laughable jokey piece of shit. :finger
Oh, and WTF is satire doing in horror??????????????? LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hahahaha, I love this post. I haven't seen the remake of DOTD, which I'm going to have to make sure I do now. I really liked the hilariously slow zombies and the horrible green makeup and the "who owns the mall OMG" and the horrible acting of the original. I'll definitely have to get the remake and compare.
the DOTD remake is vastly superior to the 80's original.
i totally dig the thought of remaking batman.

It's scary. I piddled a little when I saw it in the theater.
I'm a big fan of the old George Romero zombie movies but I do really like the DOTD remake.

Alright I finally saw the DOTD 2004 version. I liked it a lot better than the 1979 version. I liked the fast zombies. I liked that more people came into the mall (more realistic - there would still be normal people out in the "world") I liked the gun store guy. I liked the zombie baby. I liked the effects, they weren't TOO cheesy.
Though for those of you who were scared by this film... Um... you just got beat by a girl. This movie didn't scare me a bit. I actually laughed most of the way through it.
Awesome remake :)
(SPOILER:
Though they were hella dumb to leave the safety of the mall to go get on a boat just to end up on some zombie infested island. Douche bags.)

Wow,that oughta be cool.On the original one the make-up artist wasn't there so they did it themselves and it still turned out scary.I have high hopes for this one.
