View Full Version : Into Eternity
I finally listened to this band a few minutes ago, and I'm damn glad I did. Does anyone else here like them?

Hell yeah, been a fan since "Dead Or Dreaming". They have a great unique sound, which for many bands using the clean/harsh vocal combination would be impossible, but the way Into Eternity does it makes it excellent. Only problem I've had with them is the production of the last couple albums could use some work, but the songs shine regardless.

One of my favorites (see my sig). Seen them three times, got to hang out with them for a few hours a couple of times. The guys are really cool, especially Troy, Tim is amazing, and I am alway surprised at how shy Stu is off stage. I don't know the new drummer or guitarist as well, but they seem alright, too. I do miss Rob as he was just so much fun to watch. Just great guys who work their butts off and deserve any success that might come their way.
I cannot stand this band. I saw them live and I really dont see what the fuss is about.

I don't know if I will ever consider Into Eternity to be one of my favorite bands, but I like how they basically run the gamut of metal in nearly every song they play. I especially like how Stu Block can effortlessly go from a death metal growl to a Rob Halford delivery, and do everything in between.
Then again, the problem with a band like IE just may be that they cover too much ground, and thus have a hard time fitting in on just about any tour. For instance, most Deicide fans probably didn't care for the power metal vocals, and most Dream Theater fans probably didn't dig the death metal growls.
What's fucked up about a band like IE is that they're working hard to play music that is at least somewhat original in the only possible that they can -combining a bunch of contrasting styles- and they can't win because most fans of the individual styles basically hate the contrasting elements.

Well, that and throwing a bunch of unoriginal elements together still isn't too original. They are decent at most of the styles they do and I think they would do better if they focused more on just one of those styles. They are talented, just unfocused.

Honestly I don't know much about Into Eternity, and toward the end of my previous post all I was getting at was that the only way for a band to do something slightly original these days is to throw a bunch of shit together and hope for the best, and that's not a good thing.

Normally I'd agree with you, but the way Into Eternity fuses everything together it sounds natural for them. They're one of the few I've heard that can pull that off. It may have helped that I was introduced to them via "Elysian Dream" which is one of the more straight-up metal songs without the growly vocals.
