Just been listening to Love is a Killer for the first time in a long long time, Janet's vocals are awsome, then followed edge of a broken heart, then live on YouTube I want you to rock me, vocals are excellent, but also the rythm guitar from Janet is very smooth and natural.
I would say that Janet is more a natural guitarist that Jan - and she's on fire!!!
I am new to the site, I don't know if the topic has come up before?
I realise that she's no longer in the band, sorry but credit when its due...

Welcome Chris. I think voices like Janet Gardner's need many many years to born again. Jan tried to reborn the band with a new line-up but maybe she didn't consider that why many people were so called Vixen's crowd in the beggining! For me, Vixen no more plays and touring. What I know of Vixen is something that plays Vixen and Rev It Up album with Janet Gardner's voice on the songs. You know, I mean you can't put Beyonce on the Lita Ford's place and says it's Lita Ford!

I was just reading an interview of Jan and she was prasing her new singer and admiring her for singing the old songs well like many people don't recognize the change of singer on the songs! That's too cruel to accept you know. I heard Jenna's voice. It's just like many new digital voices that are already out there, Like Evanscence! If people like Evanscenece voice then they would love Jenna's voice too. It's ok but in no bloody hell way you can compare her to Janet Gardner. She's an angel from heaven for me.

Well, she may not be in the band anymore, but Janet was, is, and will always be everything Vixen’s all about. They were all great, all four, but Janet’s vocals is what really made the difference between an average rock band and one of the greatest rock bands ever, and let’s drop that “female”, which sounds as depreciative as any dichotomy can be. Janet Gardner IS Vixen. She was the reason why so many people loved this band back then, and, albeit somewhat paradoxical, she’s the reason why so many fans still love this band now. Funny how she’s not even mentioned in the “official” bio, when in fact they should worship the ground she walks upon for turning a good band into a million records selling act. At least they could show some gratitude for all she did for this band.

You know, it's hard when band members who equally contribute to a certain sound have a falling out with each other. It definitely does change the dynamic a bit when you're so used to one style of vocals and have it changed on you. Just look at Nightwish. Some of the fans have been taken for a loop by the more hard, shrill vocals of Anette compared to Tarja's operatic style.

Janet's voice is truly unique and I'm actually glad that they didn't try to mimic her sound when it became apparent that lineup no longer worked. But I'm also glad that Jan made the decision to keep moving Vixen forward. I love the "Live & Learn" album and Jenna's vocals are a huge part of that. She can flat-out sing. Will "Edge..." and "...Killer" sound different in concert? Of course. But at least there's still a band called Vixen recording kick-ass rock.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion.
Myself personally i love the old Vixen and the new Vixen.
The current Vixen has done a fantastic job of moving the band forward in an exciting and new direction while still maintaining some of the things they were known for in the past.
Its great to remember the past but the past is the past.
We all here have much love and respect past members of Vixen but if we want Vixen to survive in this Era we have to stand by them.

I donno about you, but I'm not a literally fan of Vixen. There was some reasons for my love that just 1/4 of that lives in the band now. I think Jan could do whatever she wanted to do with these people, but with a different name. The band nowdays is just a name!

Thats fair enough mate i respect your opinion even though i don't agree.
We all have a right to our own opinion of what we approve of or not.
I would like to say though Vixen are not the first band to change most of their members and carry on being a successful recording and touring act.

There are many ways to describe success. Many bands and singers come and sell millions and then fade away. This new vocalist of the band don't have half of the talent of Janet and can't impress people like what Janet could do.

If you want to come to a good expliantion for success wait and see if people still listen to this band for 17,18 years later and still be impressed by them or not.

As I just said, Jan could do whatever she wanted, but not with this name. She reduce the esteem of what this band has made!

This could be said about any band though mate, any band that has been through the line up changes Vixen have.
I agree with you like i said before i have much love and respect for the line up of Janet,Share,Roxy,Jan.
But the thing about people still digging the new line up 17-18 years down the track i guess nobody will know until we get there.
But then the Vixen, rev it up line up only lasted what 4-5 years even though they were awesome and you have to ask yourself why because they grew apart.
But as far as the new line up is concerned action speaks louder than words and they seem to be doing really well with the new line-up.
I will admit myself Vixens glory days are behind them but thats just the same as Whitesnake, def leppard,Kiss,Bon jovi and hundreds of others you can mention but that doesnt mean they cant tour and still make a living out of playing music because after all is said and done if your in the music business just for the money your in the wrong job it has to be for the love of the music.
But i think if anyone is waiting for a full reunion of the palatinum selling line-up they are going to have a long wait as Jan has toured down the offer made by Janet,Share and Roxy and Jan derserves respect for that and that shows loyalty to the current line-up and also not living in the past.
Anyways who says that if they got the classic line up back together that they would be a lot better off and even though like said before i think a lot of Janet but whos to say her voice is going to be like it used to remeber its been years since the Debut album,Rev it up.
Im really loooking forward to what Share,Roxy, and Janet are going to do but im also looking forward to the new Vixen cd from the new line up.
Phew!! Enough said.

I think my feelings for Vixen as of today mirrors my feelings about Pink Floyd during the '80s. Roger Waters' solo work and Gilmour's Pink Floyd put out some great music that was different from each other, and where the two converged, the musical experience resulting was awesome. I think I have preferred to see these two separate entities because it ultimately meant more music and more variety. I think it is cool to have a modern era Vixen coexisting with a, for lack of better words, "Vixen-related" project featuring 3/4 of the classic line-up. I'm planning on enjoying the two for what each is.

Now, anyone up for a Contraband reunion? :D
