After who knows how fucking long, I finally got around to listening to Slaughter of the Soul by At the Gates, and I must say that the album fucking kills.

As a result, I finally checked out The Haunted as well since members of At the Gates formed the band. So far I'm really digging "D.O.A." With that, what is the consensus on this band here?

I think The Haunted are Fucking Great!

I've seen them three times live...once with Marco and twice with Peter on vocals.

All of their CD's are worth checking out....If I were you I would just start at their beginning with their first self-titled CD (it just may be my favorite) it has Peter Dolving on vocals, who has returned to sing on their last two cool releases "Revolver" and "The Dead Eye".

If your lucky you can find "The Haunted Made Me Do It" double CD. it comes along with "Live in Tokyo" show.

"Bury Your Dead!"...:metal

you guys are going to hate me, buttttttt....

i'm not a fan of The Haunted. i think musically At The Gates is/was way better. plus the singer of the Haunted is a dickface. he went on some poor kid's myspace that said he didn't like the Haunted and told him to kill himself and that he was a pussy over crying over his dead uncle. he continues to go on blogs and forums to tear apart people who don't like his music on a PERSONAL level.

i do not respect people like that.

I'm not a fan that much. I love the album "Made Me Do It", but other than that, I'm not a big fan of their catalog. I'm not much of an ATG fan either. They are better than The Haunted, though. I love melodic death metal, but there are tons of better MDM bands out there.

I have seen The Haunted twice, once after each of the last two albums. I thought Revolver was a pretty good album and they played a great show on that tour. Didn't like The Dead Eye at all and on that tour I thought they sucked.

I also agree with fuzzay that Peter is a total asshole. He went on some tirade at the second show and also talked about some really inappropriate things. I have absolutely no respect for that idiot.

So, with The Haunted I think it is pretty much hit or miss. They really lack in consistency, but when they are good, they are really good.

In other words, don't expect another Slaughter of the Soul.

Ok... we already know "Slaughter Of The Soul" is a must have for any metal fan..

These dudes are all great musicians.(The Haunted)

I could care less if Peter fucks goats or kills kittens...we know he's an oddball, that's what makes him the better and the more interesting singer in my opinion.

Peter gives the band way more musical range and dynamics "rEvolver"...is great, it's so different...they are a band that isn't afraid of pushing their musical boundaries each CD.

That's not saying I didn't love the Marco era too...:thumbsup

Not at all.

At the Gates are clearly the better band out of the two in terms of musicianship and songwriting.

When it comes to Peter, Havoc, or whatever the fuck his name is, I've seen Bonehead and Vish tear him apart a few times, and since they both seem to be good guys who like good music for the most part, I'll take their word for it.

I also agree with you that The Haunted's lead singer was way out of line in the situation you mentioned. Shit, on top of being an asshole, he has no clue about the concept known as "any publicity is good publicity." :rolleyes

However, I like The Haunted very much thus far based on their sound, style and musical ability.

I like "Made Me Do It" but don't care for any of the other albums. Saw them once in 2002 and unnerved Jensen by constantly yelling for "Saltrubbed Eyes" (from his previous band Seance who released 2 awesome albums in the early 90s and have another finally coming out this year) until he played a riff to shut me up. Talked to him after the show too and he seemed a little put off by me raving about Seance instead of about The Haunted. :D

I get what you're saying here, and that's a main reason why I rarely listen to Yngwie Malmsteen these days.

I'm not crazy about the stuff since Revolver, but I like the band overall. They are one of those bands that generate as many haters as they do fans for no good reason.
