whether he or she is a guitarist, bassist, drummer or vocalist, who would you pick, and why?

I would jam with Dave Mustaine since he is a tremendous guitarist, and has one of the most interesting approaches to playing and songwriting in all of metal.

I was kinda thinking about this earlier tonight at work and the upcoming release of new Flipper stuff. It would be ultra fucking cool to get a few pointers from the old hardcore/punk veteran Ted Falconi.

3 years ago when my friend and i first met them. no video. we were just drunk and on the bus. Alexi let me play his guitar. then he sat behind me, put his fingers on mine, and taught me how to play "Needled 24/7" correctly.

*shudder* one of the best days of my life.

That's beyond awesome, and I definitely like where this is going so far. However, I forgot something I wanted to add to this thread, which was, what one song, if you could pick just one, would you want to play with said musician?

I would pick "My Last Words," a classic ode to Russian Roulette.

"One By One" I've tried playing it a few times already.I sound different each time. The guitar on that song is interesting but not extremely hard.Ted Falconi was always in the background of Flipper. Some songs you can barely make out the guitar parts. One By One is one of the few songs by them where the guitar is very audible.Sometimes it seems he was completely somewhere else while the bass and drums were plodding along.

I could probably never pick this for certain.... Would want to do something with Dave Mustaine, for sure... Mayhaps Rattlehead. Always loved that tune. I would also love to play with Satch, though. Or Alice Cooper... Blah. You know... I think oddly enough I would have to pick Markus Toivonen from Ensiferum as well. I think he has one of the most amazing tones in all of metal. Listen to the song Into Battle and you'll know what I mean. And maybe Eric "CFH" Johnson. I'd like to duel him... Guitars at dawn!

Well, if you're anywhere near the level you claim to be at, you'll beat me in a few seconds.

Nah. I'm not great yet. I really just would like to jam with you because I really like your taste in music and I've noticed the better someone's taste in music the better their music usually is. I like jamming with people whenever I can. :-| I'd also like to jam with Slasher and Bradzilla and TBHride... That and I think the guitar duel is one of the most fun things to do if you get to go second. It's fun to see how well you can mimic someone.

All I will say about where I am as a guitarist right now is that I'm nowhere near where I'd like to be, but I do the best I can to come up with what I consider real riffs and real solos. Specifically, I try to write riffs that aren't too complex, but do go somewhere, and solos that go all over the place, but aren't wankfests.

As for my taste in music, I'm glad that someone likes it around here.

I don't play guitar anymore and was never very good, but I'd love to have jammed with Chuck Schuldiner to learn some of his fingering and alternate picking techniques.

I would love to get really drunk and jam with Slash. He could teach me some sleazy blues riffs. That would be a dream come true.

If I got to pick another it definitely would be Ted Nugent because hes so crazy I would just love to meet him. Not to mention hes a very very good guitarist.

At that point in time, Slash was a badass in every sense of the term. He isn't so much now unfortunately.

Yeah, I mean I think hes still pretty cool, but if he lived the way he did back in the 80's and 90's he definitely wouldn't be alive today.

I wasn't just referring to his lifestyle then vs. now since he unfortunately isn't that great of a guitarist anymore.

Yeah, his playing right now is no where near what he did in Guns N' Roses, but then again what he did in GN'R is hard to top.

David Gilmour. He makes playing the guitar look like it's as natural as breathing. I'd love to learn some pointers and scales from him. I'd want to play way too many songs with him - but I suppose the most important one would be Comfortably Numb - I'd want to learn the solos and everything :)

David Gilmour makes guitar playing seem so effortless. I bet he just sat down and wrote the solos to "Comfortably Numb" in one take. An amazing guitarist.
