View Full Version : Dimmu Borgir
What's the consensus of this band here? I know that a lot of people view them as one of, if not THE, kings of black metal's sell-outs. With that, I have listened to very little black metal, but I absolutely love DB's style, at least that which is present on Death Cult Armageddon.

I'll pipe up here.
They're really an unusual band for me to love being that:
A) I generally don't consider myself a 'black metal' fan. (I'm more of a death / thrash type of girl ;) )
B) I generally think corpse paint looks stupid as fuck. Or hilarious as fuck, but not in a good way...
C) I more often than not can't stand the mixing of dirty and clean vocals because well... the clean vocals are usually terrible.
D) And... I just in general can't take it seriously...
BUT.
I fucking LOVE Dimmu Borgir and I think Shagrath is HOT HOT HOT!
Paint and all. :evil
I even like their clean vocals. A lot!
They put on one hell of a great live show too!

When I look at Dimmu Borgir's image, song titles, album covers I just think about how cliche they are. They aren't very original and I don't think their music is great either. Shagraf's side project, Chrome Division, is fucking cool though.

Yeah, that's one of the main reasons why I dismissed Behemoth's set two years ago when I saw them live.

In Sorte Diabloli is a decent album but sounds more like a Black/Death mixture.I didn't like Stormblast which is supposed to be real Black Metal it sucked but had a good live DVD in it.I agree their "clean" back-up vocalist sounds kinda dumb on a few songs. But,what's his name, the other vocalist is really good.
Haven't heard Death Cult Aramageddon yet.

Oh man!
One of the FUNNIEST things I've EVER seen, I was backstage with Nile and Behemoth 5 minutes before they were going on. I have NEVER seen guys do more primping, make-up applying or hair flipping as Behemoth did getting ready. AHAHAHA it was awesome! :D
It never occured to me till that moment how much work that actually takes, but it sure was fucking funny!

Thats why corpse paint is just as gay as the shit Hair Metal dudes did back in 1980's.

Dimmu did some good stuff at the end of the 90s, but they're a snoozefest now.

You're right, the idea of these "total badass, extreme metal dudes" spending hours on upon hours applying make-up is fucking hilarious!
However, that aspect was basically the last straw for me when I witnessed their set since I was waiting to see Morbid Angel, but some band that sounded like shit, and looked absolutely retarded, was playing instead.
I actually like Behemoth's music now, but at that moment I wanted to murder them.

I liked Dimmu a while back, not so much now. Older shit is better and I just simply love their cover of Twisted Sister's Burn in Hell.

i <3 the original release of "stormblast".
the rerelease was way to overproduced for the material. for the newer material, i find myself listening to "spiritual black dimensions" alot.

Well... like I said, Shagrath is one of the few 'non-animated' people that I think looks HOT in corpse paint, for not usually liking it. That doesn't mean anything to you guys, but it sure as hell does to me. haha!
i have "spiritual black dimensions", "deathcult armageddon" and "stormblast"(new version)...out of those id say my favorite is "deathcult..." mostly becuz it has nick barker playing drums...just got the old mans child cd with him playing on it as well...good stuff...
i like the dvd that came with the new "stormblast" but the effect of the corpse paint and lighting gets lost in the daytime...oh well...thats you get when playing ozzfest i guess...

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia was such a good album, soome of the fastest double-bass timings ever.
