I have a thing called Ruckus which is offered for college students for free and they have a bunch of CD's you can listen to on your computer (you can't burn them though) I have been getting into some more Children of Bodom and this is the only album they have in its entirity and I must say I really like it. I also here that people consider this there worst album? I don't understand it. What do you guys think about this album?
I haven't listened to the second half very much, but I love the first five songs, especially the title track and "If You Want Peace... Prepare For War."
As for people who think that AYDY? is CoB's worst album, check out their page at www.metal-archives.com and you'll see a bunch of idiots who think that AYDY? was written for the mallcore crowd. :rolleyes

I hear more classic metal influences more than ever in Are You Dead Yet? honestly. People really think it was written for the mallcore audience? Yikes.

it has more probably to do with it being a bit of a departure from their earlier stuff which had more neoclassical influences. It is a good album though!

It's my favorite cd by them. Not for any reason other than I think his vocals were better on that one. It's always about the vocals with me. :rolleyes :rotfl

Yeah, Laiho's vocals on AYDY? sound good, but to me they sound good on every CoB album. I understand the guy's not a great singer or anything, but his voice usually does sound pretty cool. Back to Laiho's vocals on AYDY?, they're actually a main reason why some people think that CoB wrote the album for the mallcore crowd. :rolleyes

I don't understand that. Why would the way he sings on AYDY? be directed towards the mallcore crowd. His vocals sound like harsh singing to me. I like his voice honestly. I don't see any connection between Children of Bodom and mallcore. I guess some people are even dumber than I thought.

They mainly think that because to them, the direction that Alexi Laiho's vocals went in on Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet? is similar to the one that In Flames' Anders Friden's vocals went in on Reroute to Remain, an actual sell-out album by IF.
And yes, some people are even dumber than you thought. :D

So I went and listened to a good amount of Children of Bodom's earlier albums and I got to say Are You Dead Yet? is still definitely my favorite by far. My one buddy thinks its by far there worst album though.

Thats probably my favorite as well but Hate Crew is a close second.
I haven't heard any of CoB's 90's albums, and so far Follow the Reaper is my favorite as well.
What's their 90's output like by the way?

We have to understand where im coming from. I like 80's metal alot and AYDY? is definitely there most classic metal influenced album. I really really like that album. I guess its just me. Especially "Living Dead Beat". What a good song.

nonono...if you love classical influenced metal, listen to their "Something Wild" album. you'll poop your pants.
also, check out Warmen. it's the keyboardist's from Bodom's side band:

That's the only COB album I still own, and I'm really not a fan of most of their stuff but you're right about "Follow the Reaper". I listened to that while playing Halo 3 last night, having not heard it in probably 4 or 5 years, and I had forgotten how great the title track is, and most of the songs are really good.
