::How Do You Feel About...::
Rap? : most rap sucks because it's cliche and all sounds the same, plus most of the lyrics are shit. there is good rap out there though. people such as Rehab, Redman, or Method Man. that's the extent though.
R&B? : old R&B was real R&B. now it's filled with teenage white chicks that all sound the same. it's lost it's worth.
Blues? : true blues is awsome. real feeling goes into that shit.
Pop? : horrible. next question.
Classic Rock? : it's 50/50 with me. certain bands are overrated and get way too much airplay. but then there are the greats who have influenced me to play music.
Country? : horrible. next.
Bluegrass? : effing awsome. this is what country should sound like but it doesn't. most bluegrass is shred and that's what i love about it.
Classical? : amazing. we wouldn't have music without it.
Jazz? : some jazz is okay but it doesn't really do it for me.
Alternative? : see "pop".
Ambient? : good to chill out and relax with.
Punk Rock? : AMAZING
Pop Punk? : depends on what you consider pop punk. blink 182 is utter shit if that's what you're implying.
Emo? : HORRIBLE
Screamo? : makes me want to claw my ears off
Hardcore? : true hardcore is awsome like Sick Of It All. the perfect blend of punk and thrash
Metalcore? : again, only a handful of metalcore bands have any worth.
Black Metal? : great music but stupid lyrics.
Melodic Death Metal? : THE BEST
Death Metal? : good.
Gore Metal? : not for me.
Power Metal? : there are only 2 power metal bands i like. it just gets too cheesy for me. it makes me sick.
Progressive Metal? : it depends on if the band can flow or not.
Hair Metal? : YES.
Techno? : good if you're at an 8th grade dance. there is really no other reason to like it.
Neo-classical Metal? : amazing.
Doom Metal? : there's nothing special about it so no.
Thrash? : YES.
Salsa? : no. it's all my neighbors play all day long. i want to strangle them.
Christian Metal? : see "black metal"
Opera? : these people have amazing voices. it's just not for me.
Industrial? : eh
Disco? : no
Party Rock? : YES
Folk Metal? : awsome
Freestyle? : freestyle anything is amazing as long as you're good at it
Gothic Rock? : no.
Shock Rock? : it makes me laugh. :)
Grindcore? : eh
Grunge? : absolutely not
Horror Punk? : absolutely yes
Swing? : fun
Ska? : deffinitely makes you feel good and have a great time
Technical Metal? : not really my thing
Soul? : ok
How Do You Feel About...:
Rap: I can't stand the bullshit that's devoted to spinners and bling bling, but gansta rap is fucking killer! I can listen to Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Tupac, Method Man and all of those motherfuckers any time.
R&B: This genre's not so good now, but it was amazing in the 1950's when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison were part of it.
Blues: When a genre contains Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, it kicks ass beyond belief.
Pop: This genre has some great singers and good sounding music, but a ton of crap as well.
Classic Rock: Contains many great bands, and many overrated ones as well.
Country: This genre was a great one prior to the mid-1990's when it fused with pop.
Bluegrass: Delightfully insane!
Classical: Some of it's boring, some of it's captivating. Either way, it's usually amazing from a technical standpoint.
Jazz: See classical.
Alternative: As in Bush, Tonic, Sponge, Deep Blue Something, The Smashing Pumpkins and all that other bullshit that clogged the airwaves in the mid-1990's when I wanted to hear metal? It's a complete abomination.
Ambient: As in ambient jazz. It's okay.
Punk Rock: The distortion's usually not nearly heavy or edgy enough, the vocals usually sound horrible and the one redeeming quality for most bands is great lyrics. However, Bad Religion, NOFX and Pennywise kick some major ass.
Pop Punk: Total crap.
Emo: This shit makes me want to conduct mass homicides.
Screamo: See emo.
Hardcore: This one contains plenty of braindead bullshit, but some good bands as well. Then there are bands such as Nuclear Assault and Municipal Waste that combine hardcore elements with thrash, and totally kick ass in the process.
Metalcore: Killswitch Engage has a few good albums. Atreyu has one truly kickass album. Other than that, this genre's a total wasteland.
Black Metal: Bands that sound good and/or have classical/symphonic elements, such as Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir kick ass. The ones who think that they're cool because their albums sound shitty beyond belief can shove a splintered 2x4 up their asses.
Melodic Death Metal: One of my favorite genres! I can listen to Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, Norther and Heartwork-era Carcass all day.
Death Metal: Bands such as Death, Nile, Morbid Angel and so on who know how to play their instruments and write good songs are amazing. Those who think they're so badass because they can play 200 notes per second and growl more fiercely than anyone can stick a chainsaw up their asses.
Gore Metal: I haven't heard much of it, and I don't exactly want to hear anymore.
Power Metal: Along with hair metal, this genre tops the list in terms of those that contain a lot of great music and a lot of total cheese.
Progressive Metal: Progressive, technical and neo-classical metal. Aren't these all the same fucking thing? See my answer to technical metal at the bottom of the list.
Hair Metal: Motley Crue came up with a ton of great songs. Dokken and Ratt have/had two of the best guitarists in all of metal. Other than, there's a lot of great music and a lot of absolute cheese in this genre. In terms of cheese, Poison tops the list by a mile.
Techno: Some of it sounds good, some of it's terrible.
Neo-classical Metal: Isn't this basically the same as technical/progressive metal?
Doom Metal: Down and Type O Negative kick ass. Other than that, this genre's a pretty damn boring one.
Thrash: My favorite genre! There's nothing better than hearing a band mix technical prowess with ferocious riffs, beats and descipherable yet vicious vocals. This is why Megadeth pretty much owns everybody.
Salsa: I'll listen to it if I'm at a club that plays it.
Christian Metal: I suppose the music could be good, but I have no desire to listen to the lyrics by any band in this genre.
Opera: See what I said about classical and jazz. However, when a female vocalist utilizes this style in a symphonic/gothic metal band, as in Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Leaves' Eyes, Eyes of Eden, Mercury Rain and so on, the results are usually fantastic.
Industrial: Most of these bands have killer bass and drum sounds, but unfortunately don't use any guitars. However, bands such as Ministry and Eisbrecher that use guitars to go along with the thumping bass and drums totally fucking kill.
Disco: Fuck this bullshit!
Party Rock: Isn't this the same as glam/hair metal?
Folk Metal: The good bands, such as Ensiferum, do a great job of blending acoustic melodies with nasty, crunching, distorted riffs. However, there seem to be more bands within this genre who write songs that go absolutely nowhere than any other.
Freestyle: ?
Gothic Rock: As in Type O Negative? Some of it's great. Some of it's the musical equivalent of watching paint dry.
Shock Rock: Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson have had their moments. I can do without ever hearing anything by KISS or Rob Zombie's solo band again.
Grindcore: I don't know much about this genre, and I don't have much desire to listen to the bands within it.
Grunge: The first batch of albums by the first-wave bands that were basically metal albums ruled. Unfortunately the genre went gradually downhill from there, and is now on wave number 5 or 6 in which every fucking band sounds exactly the same.
Horror Punk: As in The Misfits? It's okay.
Swing: Old school jazz swing from the early 1900's to the 1950's was amazing, and what I suppose passes for swing today, The Stray Cats and Reverend Horton Heat, is great as well.
Ska: Perhaps true ska is good, but I don't think I've listened to it, and I don't have much desire to. When it comes to the crap that was called ska by various radio stations in the late 90's, it was terrible beyond belief.
Technical Metal: I was way into this shit a few years ago, but now I can only take Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Vinnie Moore and all those motherfuckers in extremely small doses since all of their shit blends together after two or three "songs." However, a few albums exist within this genre, specifically Images & Words and Awake by Dream Theater, that are absolute gems because they feature actual songwriting.
Soul: Excllent genre! James Brown, Sam Cooke, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Jackie Wilson and many others are/were absolutely amazing.
