Original Alice In Chains Bassist Mike Starr Confirmed Dead

click to enlargeSad news to report here are RockMyMonkey headquarters. Original Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr has been found dead in a Salt Lake City home at 1:42 pm today. This has been reported by TMZ and many other major news outlets.

Having played on the most iconic releases by Alice In Chains, he will be a major part of music history. We Die Young, Facelift, Sap, Dirt, and many Alice In Chains collections (and compilations) all have his playing documented. He left the band during the touring cycle for the legendary Dirt album. Although it was said at the time he was leaving to spend more time with his family, Mike himself admited (on Celbrity Rehab) it was due to drug use.

Many fans cringed when he joined Dr. Drew on the infamous reality show. His former band mates even called it digusting. But we all hoped that somehow it would save him. All we can do now is crank up our copy of Dirt and remember the great music he gave us. Mike Starr will be missed.
